This is not true. When Junior came back after a reboot it went back to its default setting of Whisper. Your operator said in chat to all that this was acceptable to him. The server logs will show this. I remember Junior whispering after it returned and this would have been visible to you if you were watching the game.

This from Amir with his permission:
During the game after
restart, when Komodo said Junior was silent, I kibitzed that it was
whispering because I forgot to change that behavior on reconnect.

Komodo then answered that if so, no problem, he can watch Junior's
information from his other account!
Another point made by Amir who was operating Junior himself:
His speculation at the end about pondering and filling hash tables is also
way off: The machine was rebooted. Everyone on ch 64 could see that since I
(from my amirban handle) was telling the TD I need to reboot and getting
agreement.

This is true. I said something like "No problem I can see your kibitzes from my other account". And I checked, I could, so I am not sure why Don didn't see them. (EDIT: thinking it about it it could have been something to do with his kib/whisper level setting)

Thanks Gary. It would seem then at this point no immediate claim for a forfeit was made?

No immediate forfeit claim was made. Before Junior disconnected I made some suggestions in ch 64 hoping to keep them from avoiding to disconnect, but Enrico pointed out that Amir had the GUI and engine on the same machine so they had to disconnect.

Whilst they were gone I sent tell to ch 64 pointing out that they hadn't come back yet and "Good job I wasn't Vincent". I also said it was lunchtime and that I was making a sandwich. While I was doing this Junior came back and match resumed with me (you can check the logs on that). When I got back to the laptop we were playing.

To be honest I didn't really care if they were gone 5 mins or an hour, I was happy to be playing. About 10 mins later Don started to send me tells about the length of the Junior disconnect. I suggested he talk to the TD but the TD wasn't responding to him so I asked the TD to talk to handle DonDailey.

Don was clearly unhappy, he's the boss of Komodo so I got unhappy and made the claim for forfeit on time in ch 64 and the TD accepted.

Four other things I am unhappy about are:

1) That this isn't the first time this has happened with Junior (I read the reports from Pamplona and you were there) - they really need to sort out their remote setup.

2) They didn't put their hardware and software in their finger notes despite repeated requests from the TD and FICS.

3) Amir has an account here so how come you are doing all the complaining for him? He's a big boy now, or maybe he doesn't care that much

4) Enrico hinting about Komodo being a thief and Rybka code on your forum is unacceptable and demands an apology on the scale of the one he was forced to give to Eduard :)

He did not say Komodo.

No but he hinted at it by mentioning it in an append about the DeepJunior - Komodo incident, unwise at best.

It happened to all of us in Pamplona and more so in China. There was nobody shouting I claim a forfeit although the rules probably allow them to. As usual with these events a very friendly and sportsmanlike attitude was adopted by all. Rules should be applied strictly to those who refuse to abide by them as Diep did otherwise it should be played within the spirit of the rules not the letter of the law. Don is coming to Leiden the internet there can be a bit problematic but everybody wants to see the game decided over the board and not by internet or other issues.

I wish it were so, as I said, I was happy to continue in the DeepJunior game. But it seems that computer chess folks are like trainspotters when it comes to "rules". You read Thorstens post on your forum of course:

i remember how happy i was when junior team forced me to continue the completely lost game against an opponent because they thought it is important for the outcome of the tournament.
and i remember how happy my friend peter schreiner with his broken leg was, when someone from the junior team demanded that he carries his pc himself with his broken leg and the 2 crutches in the blitz tournament

Happiness can have many reasons

i could tell you many stories about "sportsmannship".

I wonder why Thorsten or others did not help him if this is true?
