Hi Fernando,
I think Vas can explain a bit what is happen with Fruit 1 / Rybka, with Igorit / Rybka. This should be not a problem and such things would be great for all others, bougth his engine. I bougth all versions of Rybka too and tested Rybka in the past.
But after so many years no statement to all that important topics isn't a nice situation around Topics which have to do with it.
Sure, I believe that Vas is talented programmer and I hope Vas have a nice life. But that isn't the topic.
At the latest ICGA decision Vas had the chance to explain. He ignore his buyer, our Organisation, the own reproaches.
For which reason he do that?
That he have a children, a nice private life?
What have this to do which all these things?
Nothing!
But after all ...
You know ... a buyer will be forget fast if he can find a new and important information. Such things can be very easy. To give a good answere of all this charges is more easy as to buy in the morning sandwiches / bread brun for breakfast.
So easy!
Best
Frank

Hello dear Frank,
You are talking a lot about that
Rybka is too old, no support, no info in readme file and etc and etc...
Rybka can be old, here this time I agree with you )
But note also that Rybka is like a fine wine !
And it gets better with age like wine ))!!
And I am so happy with using Rybka...
It is very stable; still among the strongest engines
Plus, Rybka does not forfeits on times !!
Even as old engine ! this is really important !!
BTW,
Ok...once simple question (because you praised a lot Raimund Heid a few months ago) :
Do you see any info in the readme file of Protector that Raimund is studied from Stockfish ?
And it is interesting to note,
Stockfish forfeits on time, and Protector too ))!!
It looks like,
Raimund studied (or maybe copied) a lot from Stockfish (even he learned the bad parts of Stockfish))
Please inform me...why Protector, Fire, Gull, Senpai... forfeits on time, and why Rybka does not forfeit... ??
Btw, you praised also many programers, where their engines are even as single processors
I think that a very talented programmer should be able to release his engine as MP...we are in 2015 !)
To be more clear,
For me the most important parts of X engine:
Originality
Stability
Elo Performance
And all the 3 important parts are available in Rybka !)
That's why as Rybka customer:I don't need Rybka support )
Hopes helps,
Sedat

That's true and in that case Vas was victimized by fellow programmers who were completely unethical and committed even a graver crime then Vas ever did!hgm wrote:$Rebel wrote:Give me one good reason why he would return to the people who slaughtered him.![]()
Vas dropped out of the game not because he was 'slaughtered'. Rybka was still selling well enough. He dropped out because any new ideas of his were stolen and published just days after he released a new version implementing them.
Not the ICGA or Bob Hyatt et al; but unknown programmers who haven't been exposed for their crimes!

What to say about the Rybka Chess Engine Series.......a few words...dynamic...unique......different.....good settings.....great in late middlegame and endgame.....endgame attacking......profound playing style IM to GM playing style......Dangerous opponent.....A threat in any engine tourney...etc..If we could just get another 5-7 ply more depth out of this engine today....just imagine the results!!!

Your rant has nothing to do with the thread title, but just one question for you.
How come Rybka 4.1 is still over 100 points stronger than Fabien's latest effort?

Well, there was a time when Rybka was the top engine standing above all other engines. This time has gone.
I think not only Vas alone made rybka so strong.
Even Larry Kaufman has contributed much to improving strength on the latest rybka versions (3 and 4). As far as i know, his part was mainly on getting correct evaluations. And rybkas evals where the best at this time. I remember that Larrys article on material imbalances was published in 1995, so when he worked for the rybka team he was the expert in material evaluation. It is a known secret that rybka has already material imbalance tables.
Vas could make rybka much stronger, no doubt. He could make the gap between rybka and Komodo/Stockfish/(Houdini) smaller, but getting number one again after Larry has moved on to Komodo is impossible.
I believe there will be no new version of rybka.
And I believe there will be no new version of houdini.
Vas, Robert: If you read this.
There are many computer chess fans hoping that you develop new versions of your engines. Even if not getting the number one again, your engines belong to the very best. Your engines contributed to engine development and any new version would do it too.
I hope to see new versions. We hope to see new versions.
Just my 2 cents,
Frank

Re: What's Vasik Rajlich doing today?
Hi Sedat,
I believe more as 10.000 games played with Protector Versions in SWCR1, SWCR2, FCT1. Let me look in my "lost on time" stat ...
No game lost on time, one of the best two stats by Protector with the GUI and time control I am using. I can't see anything in stats to the playing style that Protector is similar to an other engine.
Very interesting is the interview I made with the programmer of Protector.
http://www.schach-welt.de/schach/comput ... imund-heid
Possible that Raimund used also ideas by others. Why not if he like, I have no Problems with it if he say that and if I can read it.
Sedat you are building your own reality. It's OK for me and I am sure for others. I have no interest to start disucssion to 1.000 available engines with yourself.
Delete Protector in your tourneys, added three Rybka Versions if you like. Others added 5 IPP engines in here Rating list. Each one should do what he like. Not possible to create a perfect selection of engines today I think.
I am looking on my playing style stats and I am very happy with my results and engines I am using.
Best
Frank
PS: I don't like Rybka yes but for my tourney Rybka is to old. Engines older as three years I have no interest to test it again and again. The reason Rybka isn't playing in FCT1, but I have a lot of games for SWCR2 and SWCR1. More interesting for myself to looking in actual engines.

IIRC Ippos were Rybka 3 RE, and were released before Rybka 4. Ippos were stronger than Rybka 3, the level of the later Rybka 4. The new "ideas" in Rybka 4 were not stolen, and it's visible in Sim results (Ippos most closely related to Rybka 3, and not Rybka 4).hgm wrote:$Rebel wrote:Give me one good reason why he would return to the people who slaughtered him.![]()
