Hey Larry & Mark..congrats with K9.

If you don't mind me asking...I am curious if you used the double history idea...aka CounterMoveHistory (cmh) and if it help contribute elo?

You can PM me if you want to state privately.

Regards.

No, we didn't try it yet, but it's near the top of the list for things to try after the release. What is the estimate of how many elo SF gained from all uses of cmh?

Since it impacts move ordering and you've stated you are not sure you are getting all the benefit of LMR that SF is, it may provide more boost to K than SF received. Of course that comes with the "If" the idea integrates well with your existing design.

All the best and congrats on the new version.

If there was another guy remembering Don it must to be you.

I think I will purchase the K9 in Chessbase format. You know, I like some thrills...

Yes, good move ordering is crucial for LMR, search efficiency and other things. Komodo's move ordering scheme is a bit different (and is something we are often adjusting and changing), so adding in history tables based on the last move is a bit tricky, and might give us a boost, or might not. It seems a lot of ideas do not work between programs.

lkaufman wrote:... Two new major features have been added. One is Persistent Hash, which is desirable for analysis. The other is that Komodo can now play Chess 960 (a.k.a. Fischerrandom). Maximum hash size has been raised to 64 Gb, and UCI options have been added to control the amount of reduction (lmr) and pruning (lmp). Although we believe the defaults are near-optimum for bullet chess, it is our hope that users will discover that for long time control games some other settings are better. ...

Larry could you expound a little bit on your implementation of Persistent Hash and what benefits it will provide for long and very long analysis?
