Chessqueen wrote: Tue May 05, 2020 3:31 pm I think that you are right, and I agree that the four FRC games with Lenderman at full knight odds will be difficult for Komodo (I'd be happy with 2 draws out of those four games), but I think you underestimate how huge the difference is between your hardware and the threadripper, and also Komodo is improved a bit already. I do want to try to find settings or modifications that will help vs. Lenderman. One theory I have is that a lower Dynamism setting is appropriate vs. humans, since they aren't so good at exploiting mobility as machines are. So you could try playing with Dynamism reduced to perhaps 80 or so to see if that helps.

Dynamism =80 Since I was a piece up I saw that it would be great to return it and to open up the King 16....Bxg3+

Okay, this is a bit worrysome, even on your computer I didn't expect you to win any games at knight for pawn, regardless of settings. But anyway this does convince me not to try Dynamism as low as 80, the normal value will see such sacrifices much more quickly. It would help if you always mention whether games are standard or MCTS mode, and what Contempt was used. If you find that certain settings make it harder for you to score, let us know.
I was very Lucky to win this one , since I only had 5 seconds left on the clock

Something is really wrong here. We had about a dozen games between Komodo and various grandmasters at slow Rapid time controls at this same rook for knight handicap, and Komodo never lost a single game, drawing about half, not even losing to Nakamura! Of course your hardware is much slower, but I can't believe that a player of 2000 USCF/1900 FIDE level could win a game this way from Komodo unless something is terribly wrong. MCTS or standard shouldn't matter. What depths was it getting? What else could explain this? This handicap is way less than knight odds, and you couldn't win at that.

That is the same problem that I have been observing all long, I notice that for some reason when playing against KOMODO the depth is very very low. oh well I will have to purchase a 8 core or 16 core system very soon, or it could be that I have something wrong with this 4 years old system, probably it is too fragmented or who knows

PS: What 16 or 8 core system do anybody recommend me to purchase for less than $1,000.0 Dollars :?:

Perhaps you are setting your hash size too high for your memory; what size hash and how much memory do you have? If you set it too high it may slow down to a disastrous degree, which seems to be happening. The system you quote from newegg should be plenty powerful for awesome chess; it's not close to a threadripper but it's amazingly good for the price.

Of course that was the problem my hash size was set to 1024, with only 8.00 GB Memory, therefore, my computer war crawling. Tomorrow I will play Komodo 13.3 without being limited.

I lost in time; that is for sure that Komodo 13.3 with hash size adjustment to my hardware is playing much deeper, and for the record none of the previous games that I played count since Komodo 13.3 was not only playing material handicap, but also limited by me assigning the hash size way too high. Well up to this point I was too happy enjoying my results, but now I came back to Earth or to reality. I really do not need to purchase a new and more powerful system since Komodo 13.3 is giving me just what I wanted an almost even match with a knight odds for my strength.

Chessqueen wrote: Wed May 06, 2020 8:10 am Something is really wrong here.

I am thinking to purchase this refurbished HP 16 core ==> https://www.newegg.com/hp-proliant-bl46 ... -_-Product
It took Komodo 26 moves to even up the game in material, but even if i had 2 or 5 more minutes there is no way that I can draw this game only a strong GM can continue this game and probably draw against Komdo at the final position when I lost in time. I noticed that my King was naked and Komodo with three pawns and a Queen can easily promote one of those pawns or force the exchange of another black piece and therefore win the game. If Komodo end up with a position like this against GM Lenderman with Komodo endgame database, GM Lenderman would not be able to win only with precision he could hold a Draw with this final position.

Now that the Hash size is set to the correct amount I will replay this game from move 6 on, I might have a chance to get a DRAW with a Knight odds plus a pawn removed, Let see how good Komodo 13.3 really is.....

I do NOT think I should play this game it would be too easy for me to win it,I can see a knight odds on my weak hardware, but a knight odds plus a pawn is just too much and any 1950 thru 2000 player should be able to beat Komodo 13.3 on a weak hardware like this one.

Well, a pawn does make a real difference. I've been mostly losing to Komodo (even on my 8 core laptop; each core about same speed as threadripper, but 8 vs 32 cores) at knight for pawn in rapid, even though I won 4.5 to 1.5 at full knight odds. But you should establish what handicap you can beat Komodo at, without prior assumptions as to what should be too much. You can try knight and move (meaning you have White pieces with Black knight removed) as the next handicap up from knight odds, and if you still lose, then go to this knight and pawn handicap. In these handicap games, the difference between playing White and playing Black is roughly half a pawn, so the steps are pretty smooth.
Komodo rules!
