after Qb6 Be5,black is dead,While after Qb4 Be5,he can try Bxf2
So white has to work a bit harder after Qb4.
I suggest black to look for a selfmate

Yes, that is very true - and the Tasc is very unlikely to make a mistake. We are in a bad position, I think we will probably lose this match. I'll look at it again
The TASC is very very likely to make a mistake and it comes after Qb4.

I would be somewhat amazed if it chose any other move as it cannot see far enough ahead.

Qb4 protects the Bishop along the a3->f8 diagonal. Our bishop will be going there to be swapped by the one that will most likely be on h4 shortly.

You wanted a chance.......well here it is.

Qb4 is the chance or we are beaten.

If the computer plays anything other than Bh4 after Qb4 I would be very surprised.

It would mean that there was something very scurrilous going on and I doubt Steve would do that.

I would imagine that even current versions of The King only would play Qg5 way beyond the depth that the TASC R30 would be capable of.

Are you trying to tell me that you never play an opponent based on their merits?

It happens in football all the time. Today Scotland will only play one striker up front because they are away from home and only need a draw. At home they would play two strikers when playing the same team whether they need a draw or not.

Knowing your opponent and the conditions of play and the conditions of their play is not a crime.....it's a way to win.

You need to remember that the sequence Qb4 and Bh4 only gives us a chance to win from a level playing field.

Qb6 loses on the spot.

i hate to get involved in the voting but i feel i must reply to this
let me get this exactly straight Chris
if the R30 does not play Bh4 in reply to Qb4(if that is the teams move) then you are going to suggest i am cheating in some way?
would that be about right?

I know it plays Bh4 by default because I know how The King from that era and at that depth plays.......by default

Did you change the way the TASC R30 plays?

See here........

Code: Select all

..... because if you did not.......it will play Bh4 after Qb4.

Anything else you suggest is your mind only as anyone here can outvote Qb4 as the move.

Christopher
i have a normal R30 with version 2.2 of the King program released in 1993
i have not modified the computer in any way
the computer can be set to several different strength levels and several playing styles
for this entire match i have used the setting
Strength-EXPERT
Style -ACTIVE
the default (start up) playing style is NORMAL but every collector worth his salt knows that "Active" is the best setting for the R30

if the team chooses to play Qb4 i will let the computer run for about 4-5 hours(which has been the norm for almost every move i have made in this game)

during those five hours i will make a note of the "BEST MOVE" the computer would currently make
during each "BEST MOVE" change (if any) i will note the time of the change
the R30's display shows the time of its last change in best move
after about 5 hours(depending on when i can be at the computer )i will make the move the R30 would make at that point

i imagine anyone owning an R30-V2.2 would have the same exact results as i will have

This is kind of offensive, and is completely unprovoked. If the machine does not make the move you predict it makes Steve a cheater!??? He is putting a lot of effort for our fun, and instead of appreciation he gets this childish pseudo-accusation.

Please stop.

Steve,
a german would now say: "Don't put everything Chris says on the golden balance."
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Your integrity was not in doubt.......

When I left it running here (infinitely) The King wants Bh4 from about depth 5 to so far depth 11.

Funnily it realised about Rf4 but thinks it has found something better (which it is not) and STILL wants to play Bh4.

BTW in case you are wondering Positions looked at needs a "1" in front of it as it has gone round the clock (like cars do at a certain mileage). There are not enough digits it seems in the graphics for thinking.
