fantastic idea. They never will take it because they know that 100:1 they would lose, but this shows how poor their engine decision for the "The Ultimate Computer Chess Challenge 2007" is.
Of course it is good when computer chess events in public happen and reach other people then just as few in the computer chess comunity. But it should be also in public that they simply "forgot" about the best engine for x86 environment. Sorry that I said only x86 environment, we simply do not know how good Hydra is, in my opinion Rybka on decent hardware will be definitely stronger, but we will never know for sure. Anyway, of course they forgot Hydra as well. So this looks really just like a marketing campaign...

The main thing is getting FIDE on board. They are the key party here. Anyway, we will see. It's hard to make predictions.
I'm making a $100,000 challenge (together with an open letter) to FIDE, for a match between Rybka and the winner of FIDE's upcoming 'Ultimate Computer Chess Challenge 2007'.
Also to address Ilyumzhinov with "His Excellency" is showing way too much respect. That's like calling Hitler "my Führer". Ilyumzhinov is a criminal and should be treated as such. You are better off just staying away. There is a reason why FIDE cannot find Corporate sponsorship. In fact they are "paying" companies like Chessbase to be involved.
" Ilyumzhinov was elected President in 1993, at the age of thirty-one. He immediately abolished the parliament, altered the constitution, and lengthened his term of office. He finds little beauty in democracy and readily concedes that his republic is corrupt. (“Who was it that they arrested last week?’’ he said to me. “Something having to do with the inspection of the lower courts—for bribes, or something. Anyway, while money exists, while there is government, beginning with the Roman Empire, and in the thousands of years since—it’s always been a problem.”) "
