Tough choices now... Kf8, Kf7 (my preferred move at the moment). I guess h7 is possible too, but I see no good reason to have the king hanging loose over there

46 ... Kf7

White's bishop is black-squared, so white square is better for black king,
especially as f7 is nearer black pawns than f8.

Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

They are the exact reasons I prefer Kf7. But on the other hand the king is under no immediate threat from the black-squared bishop so we may not need to factor that in. I'm embarrassed to admit I have been using some engines to help me decide this move. Most prefer Kf8 and I don't really know why. One top engine prefers Kh7 at the moment at depth 26, rather strange. Regardless, I'm likely to go for Kf7 as the move _I_ prefer rather than the engines.

It is quite easy for engines to get this deep very quickly with so few pieces on the board and 4CPUs to utilise. At the end of the day I'll go with what I l prefer though

bring on the heavy artillery regards

im saving the really big gun for your 960 game
the strongest dedicated computer ever released for sale(not counting the recently released Res/Rev computers) was The Tasc R40..locked and loaded with version 2.5 of the King program
this monster weighs in at 2400 Elo at 3 minutes per move
giving it 24 hours per move could well raise its rating to 4000+ and beyond
you have been warned regards

:D Bring it on

Depending on the starting position, the special castling rules will probably be an issue, but once we are past that stage, it will be fine

Meanwhile, my Vote for this move is Kf7

Matthias.

correction: 46 ... Kf8

f7 should remain empty so that Rook can pass to b7 and grab a pawn.

Matthias.
