Good to hear you include the second point.Theo van der Storm wrote: We want to have both: a strong tournament, which is fun for the programmers.
I bet.Fortunately the top programmers, when they cannot make it to the tournament hall, are usually represented by someone with real involvement (book, beta-testing, etc.).
You contradict yourself as you are an ex-computerchess programmer.Mutual? As an ex-computer-chess programmer I cannot imagine a lack of interest in my own program's game.
Oh, perhaps that is why you are an ex-computerchess programmer. Anyway, I have some nice draws and such there come out of those very one-sided games. besides that I like to discuss a game and possible ideas a program has for future play/plan/moves, etc. If an operator doesn't have a clue about the program he is operating I'm not that interested being there myself as I can have my program play more interesting games against more interesting opponents at home. That someone loses interest in a very one-sided game has little to do with the question if an operator or a programmer is there.
Most won't feel too welcome. The editor actively contacts and interviews programmers. We could have a some more technical stories, agreed, but this depends first and foremost on the programmers themselves.
You would "probably" accept a 1200 Elo newcomer. Such a newcomer must feel so lucky.Of course, what you write is not true. We encourage everybody to sign up and try to get to the start as strong as possible. We would probably accept a 1200 Elo program from a newcomer. We would ask a programmer of an 600-800 Elo program, if he's absolutely sure he wants to play a tournament at that time already.
Good to hear. The "proposal" you mention was only a remark in a brainstorm session. I was happy this idea was abandoned very quickly.
"All this"? All what? In reply to H.G.'s post I gave an indication to how effort is divided. I'm surprised you even took the effort to read my post. I feel lucky. And all of this, because someone misspelled your name?
Ah you have a hard time with my name, but now you think you know something about me.If you have such a negative attitude
Yes, you won't see me back there.then maybe you had better stay at home.
