Oh no - looks like Ehlvest might have cracked again! What a real shame.
what else is new??
was this not to be expected given his sterling performances against Zappa and in Rybka 1?

now we see the wisdom of Kaufman's choice to wheel Ehlvest out again

no surprise really

updating our Ehlvest vs Computers we get

vs ZAPPA 1-3
vs Rybka first match...2-5(not counting game 4 mercy draw)

and now .5-2.5

totals..3.5-10.5

i think this is just turning into a circus
i know Kaufman and Rajlich read these posts so here is my suggestion to salvage the rest of this match before it becomes a rehash of the Hydra-Mickey Massacre ....5-5.5

bring in GM Joel Benjamin
OR

for games 4-6 ....if Ehlvest moves a piece and keeps his finger on it then before he releases his finger he is allowed...

Takesies Backsies Regards
Steve

And Terry talked about me having a lack of respect for Joel Benjamin!
Your putdown of Ehlvest is appalling!

Ehlvest has actually played very well. The two errors he did make were not at all obvious.

Regards, Graham.

PS - if Benjamin does play Rybka and gets smashed even more decisively, what will your excuse be then?

well lets see GM Benjamin already for gods sake and we can find out!
he should have been playing this match

at this rate .. with Ehlvest turning in such a sterling performance here .. i guess he is already a shoe-in for the Next match as well
Sheesh Regards

PS..your Exclusive S-Vancouver 32(Which i had set up) would have held the R+P ending draw here against Rybka

Which move did it see as Ehlvest's error?

Regards, Graham.

PS - I too would like to see other GMs playing matches against Rybka.

You guys are being really hard on Jaan. Not so easy to hold this ending without computer assistance. Personally I think that he had a draw until here

[d]k7/1p4r1/p7/5R1p/7p/P7/6PK/8 w - - 0 34

If you watch a lot of engine games you will notice that Rxh4 here will give very good chances for a draw. With the opposing King so far away and the pawns also far from the queening squares white has great chances for draw with Rxh4. This would result in either a doubled pawn vs passed pawn endgame that should draw or if black decides to use a move to get his King closer to pawns then would be also dead drawn passed a or b pawn vs passed h pawn. But really as a human playing this it must be hell trying to calculate all this since a tiny error is a quick loss.

I think the most significant thing from the games so far is that Rybka is not suffering so much from lack of opening book. Somehow I think Jaan can do much much better there. Still I really feel that not many GM's could have done any better and the includes Joel and Nakamura.

it is almost impossible to do worse
even my chess computers could probably scratch out one draw in 4 games

oh my word

this is soooo bad its not even funny any more

i tuned in late to game four and it was already over with yet another Sterling performance by Ehlvest dropping an entire piece by move 24!
how sad to see him keep playing a full piece down

i have to assume at this point that even Ehlvest himself would rather see GM Benjamin playing Rybka
i wonder if he really wants to leave Kaufmans house and get the hell out of there but Larry his holding him hostage forcing him to play on at Gun point?

Cumulative totals to date vs Computers

Ehlvest vs Zappa 1-3(2005)
vs Rybka Match 1- 2-5(ignoring game 4 mercy draw)
this match... .5-3.5
total vs computers- 3.5-11.5- 23%

I've seen enough

Hi Steve,
Wow,a piece down by the 24th move
Even I myself don't remember playing a piece down recently playing all types of engines on my dual core laptop and i am definitely not a grandmaster

Sadly Dr. Wael its true
perhaps Ted Or Graham can post the game score so you can see it for yourself if you have not already seen the game score

and to think ..one of the justifications Kaufman gave for choosing Ehlvest again (over interested inquires by Benjamin) was that he felt Ehlvest got stronger against Rybka in the last match near the end

Pfffft

even more sadly.. there is yet another game to be played in 3 hours from now(as i write)

in the last match in game 4, Kaufman let Ehlvest off the hook with a mercy draw in game 4 after 13 moves(because he had just lost the first 3 games in a row)
i am guessing he might do the same tonight in game 5 and let Ehlvest escape total humiliation and toss him another mercy draw after a few perfunctory moves

Aha,so that's the story of this single draw from the last match,a dedicated half point after 13 moves,hmmm....thanks Steve for the info, wasn't aware of that
