In the description of the new engine, they mention: An increased efficiency of the search, a new search approach which looks much deeper, a somewhat less speculative evaluation, and a hope for a strength improvement of 80...100 Elo.

There's no mention of a UCI engine. Can anyone confirm that this will be included?

Here. I could be mistaken but I'm quite sure that there was a post here a couple of weeks back that said that Fritz 11 would come out as a UCI engine as well as native ChessBase. I could be mistaken - work has been hectic over the past couple of months and I have been unable to devote as much time as I'd like to more important issues such as CCErik Roggenburg wrote:Where did you hear a rumor about a UCI Fritz??

Good one Steve!
I hope you are right about the UCI engine. I think that would actually be wise on Chessbase's part. You'd still have to buy the GUI and all to get the UCI engine, but then at least you could use it in the GUI of your choice.

Re: Fritz 11 available
I am almost sure that Fritz 11 does NOT include a UCI engine, because it isn't mentioned in the "what's new" info in the descriptions:
http://www.chessbase.com/shop/product.asp?pid=358
http://www.chessbase.com/products/fritz11/index.htm
Such a novelty as a UCI Fritz would certainly be mentioned. I don't think that would fit into CB.'s concepts though. Also, I kind of read between the lines, that the company turns away somewhat more again(*), from the "freaky" aspects of computer chess. Did you notice that the last two big computerchess events were not mentioned by CB. at all, neither on chessbase.com nor -de? Previously, from their covering of the J-F / Elista match I had the impression that it wasn't very enthusiastic either. Let's see if they will mention Paderborn (Dec. 27th-30th).
*) the first big symptom for it was when Fritz quit to participate in big computer tournaments like the WCCCh., after 2003

Would this release of the single-threaded Fritz11 imply that there will be a different MP engine coming later on?

Kaj

Probably the same engine with multi-cpu capability.
