32 or 64 bit ?

Post by Jaimes Conda »

February 2007

There's really very little reason for home and small business users to upgrade to Vista at all at the moment (February 2007). Yes, it has some nifty new features, but DirectX 10 games aren't quite here yet, and there are still far too many compatibility problems with existing hardware, many of which will be ironed out in the coming months.

There's even less reason for normal users to get 64-bit Windows. Compatibility is even worse, it isn't (overall) any faster for 32-bit software, and unless you already know of some piece of 64-bit software that you really want to run, I can fairly confidently state that there isn't any.

Well, at least Rybka, Zappa get 70% speed on 64-bit.

And anybody can try the free Win XP Pro x64 trial version (120 days).
I use it in dual boot with Win WP Home, and certainly can't complain!

JC,

We are closer to February 2008. Time to upgrade. Vista 64 bit makes XP and Win 2000 Pro look like dumb dirty dogs.

Enjoy,

Bill

Tim,
O.K. Would you give more details why Vista 64 is so much better than XP & Win 2K.
Also what software is available? Fritz 11 is not compatible.

Make your case.................Jaimes Gates

Sorry if this is a silly question, but where did you see Fritz 11 is incompatible with Vista 64 bit? I can't find it on the chessbase site, and all my older chessbase programs run fine on vista 64 bit. Thanks, D. Perrin

Agreed - Deep Fritz 10 for example is perfectly fine on Vista x64
It would be very surprising if Fritz 11 was not...

Sorry my error. I meant to say ''Is F 11 compatible with Vista 64?''.
