Who will be next?

Post by Tony Thomas »

To date only 4 engines have crossed the 3000 elo barrier, namely Rybka, Zappa, Shredder, Naum. With the improvement we have seen in Fritz 11, it is almost certain that Fritz will break that barrier as well. Which one of the engine do you think will be the next to do it? My money is on Hiarcs by the way. Did you guys notice that Glaurung was the first free engine to pass the free Rybka 1.0 64bit? Provided that Glaurung uses enough CPU's. The above hasnt been acheived by any other free engine so far.

I hope to resume work on BigLion very soon.

Best,
Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

In this order,I would guess.

1.Fruit/Chess 64 (I'm hoping that these engines 'd pull a pleasant surprise in CCT)

2.Deep Fritz (When the multi processor version is out, this would easily cross 3000 mark)

3.Hiarcs(12th version...and an update to that,certainly a 3000 elo)

4.Toga (faster development, and as soon as the mp support is added)

5.Glaurung(Tord is a good programmer)

6.Deep Junior(slower development this year compared to most of the other engines, when it takes part in the next official tourney, maybe the author would release the new version)

7.Bright (good scope for this engine, rapid improvement at higher level)

8.Loop(haven't heard of since..another version and it will cross 3000,I presume the author is busy nowadays)

9.DeepSjeng,Smarthink,Chessmaster

10.Alaric,Movei, and Hamsters,If Alessandro keeps improving 50-100 elo per version which he does, who knows it might even cross 3000 mark one day...not more than 2 years.

btw it seems Hiarcs is already a 3000 elo according to CCRL, I would put this in level with Fruit, certainly ahead of Fritz.
1.Chess64/Hiarcs/Fruit, 2.Deep Fritz etc

I have this dream of one day Dancing Dragon joining the fray :P Well I think it sounds better than Mjolnir and there is already a legitimate engine called Thor's Hammer I believe

In my rating list which will be published soon I hope,only one version of Rybka has crossed the 3000 Elo barrier;

Rybka 2.3.2a MP r 3032

Probably super joke, but good luck!
In sequence
1620m - Sněžka (top mountain in Czech republic)
2000 - minor barrier
2121 - my top FIDE ELO
2400 - cca IM
2550 - cca IGM
2650 - top 100 humans?
2850 - human champion?
3000 - last step :D

Best wishes Pavel Háse

When I checked last night Hiarcs was about 13 points shy of reaching the 3000 point barrier. Fritz 10 4 cpu is already at 2993, since Fritz 11 is almost 70 points stronger than its predecessor, it is almost certain that it will pass the 3000 barrier. The funny thing is that with all these strong engines, I no longer even care for stronger engines. A Zappa better at my time control would certainly be nice.
