My guess is CCRL: 2400 < Olithink 5.12 Elos < 2500.
If you are on a sidewalk and the covid goes beep beep
Just step aside or you might have a bit of heat
Covid covid runs through the town all day
Can the people ever change their ways
Sherwin the covid's after you
Sherwin if it catches you you're through
No news at the moment. I've not done anything significant with Glaurung 2 recently, apart from trimming away some fat in order to make it easier to port the program to Apple's handheld devices. I don't expect to find any time to improve the engine on this side of the summer, but perhaps I'll be able to work a little bit on it some time in the autumn. Because of various other hobbies and commitments, I won't be able to do very much, but fortunately Glaurung 2 is still very unpolished and easy to improve, so it is not entirely impossible that there will be a significantly stronger version before the end of the year.

Olithink is an awesome program, by the way -- possibly my favorite open source engine. I've learnt most of what I know about bitboards from your source code, and much of my own bitboard code still has similarities to yours (except that my code is far more verbose, far less elegant, and probably slower). Keep up the good work!
Thank you. Now I am very flattered, because it's *you* who wrote the -by far- best open source program.
Thanks, but I don't think there is such a thing as a "best" open source program. It depends on what you are looking for (features, readability, strength, conciseness, portability, scalability, style of play, etc.). In any case, I'm of course always happy when at least some people find my code good for some purposes.
Crafty may be almost as strong as Glaurung, but your program is so much more readable!
Crafty is a much more low-level and feature-packed program than Glaurung, it is therefore no surprise that it is somewhat more difficult to read. On the other hand, it is significantly faster and stronger, at least when given sufficiently fast hardware.

Glaurung is a great and strong program so it's good to know that a big improvement is still expected and I'm looking forward for it
