I wonder why..

Post by Tony Thomas »

I just saw at the Shredder website that Shredder is the official program of world chess championship..Shredder is strong and all, but it is no longer on the top 3. I wonder how it managed to become the official program??

I just noticed that the direct link doesnt work, just click on the link on the top at Shredderchess..According to Shredder site, you can see more info at the tournament page..

However, the only thing I noticed so far is a shredder logo on the left side. I also noticed that Shredder is listed as a partner, so I guess the news isnt surprising.

The company that makes the world championship is located in Dortmund (Germany) and Shredder is a program German, perhaps that's the explanation.

Moreover its author, also has good relations with those responsible for carrying out the Chess960 world championship (Mainz - Germany), this year Shredder was among the 4 finalists without prior championship play in Internet.

Maybe it´s because Shredder 11 is a very balanced engine and play very well the endings :?: Rybka 3 is now a very agressive engine and not always a Human GM cannot follow it deep enough in their attacks, Zappa is fine in positional games , but it can play agressive but maybe S11 is better in the ending, and about Naum... I don´t know

From the Shredder11' games I saw it's most human alike engine (it is thinking plans more than other engines, I guess) so IMO the choice is right.

I wonder why you think engine strength has anything at all to do with advertising.

What are you talking about? Didn't you know coca-cola was the official soda of the Olympics because it tastes better than Pepsi?

Booya..Usually the company with the most money becomes the sponsor. If it was last year we could have said, oh poor Vas he doesnt have any money. That's no longer the case, he is currently the only engine programmer (I am not sure if anyone else did before) to have a deal with chessbase and Convekta...By the way, Coke does taste better in Atlanta than Pepsi, if you dont believe me look at the sales figures  .
