When's game 5, and, If Anand cannot easily win with white...

Post by S.Taylor »

If Anand has so much trouble winning as white, and now it's a black one coming along for him, which he might well lose, then he is still far from looking like a clear winner.

By the way, when is game 5?

If Anand wins with Black quite easily, then a draw with white is good enough. May be Kramnik is also very good with black (for a draw), but not enough for a win with black.

Today's (20th Oct 2008) match - Anand (with Black pieces) with Kramnik (with White pieces) at 3 pm Bonn (Germany) time should be an interesting one. Anand may again with with black!

At this level of chess (~ ELO 2800), preparation is the key. If one takes his opponent into a less prepared line, then time trouble usually decides the winner.

Yes, You are right. Computer assisted new opening line has been frequently happening in recent GM games.

Key for most GM's is to try some unique variations in certain opening to confuse their opponents while they come well prepared, if opponent doesn't know the particular line, he has to equalize the position without any tiny positional error, that would take him more time, he has to be cautious.

Huh? What are you talking about? Anand won with black in game 3. It's Kramnik who needs to worry about losing with white again in game 5.

Game 3 might have been a one-off, but not normally expected, especially as he hasn't even won yet as White. White is normally considered an advantage. (doesn't matter what happened ONE time).

Ask Kramnik if one win matters. :) he has 3 draws which he
considers wins. They both play solid opening northing off
the wall in these types of games.Kramnik needs a win bad
today. He has been on the run and fighting for draw
since these games started.

The one with best visual memory ability will win the match.

Best to you,

Gerold.

You know Gerold, it seems sad that it takes Kramnik to be behind in the match in order to make him really start playing chess. He is really not a bad player when he trys to play for a win. I guess thats why I like Anand, he will play most times weather he is on top or not. Kramnik made it to the top and seemed hardly play anymore after getting the title.

I think you are right Ted. I hope he plays better in this game.
When on top its best to keep up with his playing skills or
he will not be at the top. :)
