I am not going to say what those letters stand for. If you've been following Romi's progress then it should not be too hard to figure out. :D

I've been sacrificing sleep again to get a new RomiChess out to her last few remaining die hard fans before she is forgotten. I hope that this might be close to the new release version as I can not keep this up any longer.

I just hope that this early fantastic result is not a fluke this time. This seems to be beyond any reasonable doubt an impossible start to be 36 games into a match with OliThink 5.22 and not to have suffered several losses let alone to be undefeated! :? This has got to be the prelude to a new record! Fingers crossed! 8-)

I went back to Dann's formula for r that got the last record.

r = 2.5 + 0.25 * ddepth + log(delta) / 5

Then I started on a backlog of ideas that I have not had a chance to try yet. The idea that is running now is just adding a '+ 10' to one place in my LMR code. I reasoned that the change would make LMR safer (therefore stronger) and also result in faster searches (also therefore stronger). A double wammy from just adding a '+ 10'! Looks like I might have been right this time!! :D

Undefeated. Impressive! So there would be a download of executables and sources? :roll:

Yes, as always! And don't worry Romi is not getting a Hippo butt in her old age. :lol: She is still lean and even meaner than ever.

However, game 48 was her first loss.

RomiChess96 - Olithinkwin32 : 44.0/50 39-1-10 (===1==1111=111111=1111111=111111=11111111111=11011) 88% +346

Is the quote a dissatisfaction over releasing sources? If so I will listen to arguments for discontinuing to do so. Romi is no Fruit 2.1 though, so I do not see the harm to do bussiness as usual. :?: [/quote]

RomiChess96 - Olithinkwin32 : 59.0/71 51-4-16 (===1==1111=111111=1111111=111111=11111111111=110110=11=0==110=1111111=1) 83% +275

A little speed bump in the middle of the road, but still a great result so far. And Romi's picking her speed back up again. She called on her cell and said that she's going to fly by the corner store to pick up a six pack and then head over to Homer's to see what mischief they could get into. :lol:

It is way overdue. Just adding a '+ 10' to the code takes forever as the optimal value could be anywhere from '+1 to +40ish. At 40,000 games needed for each to accurately gauge each value from the next it could be years just to make this one change. However, I can try to fudge a better value later. There will be a new Romi shortly.

p.s. Romi just got a new record with 13 games to go!

I find it faster and almost as accurate to just as my magic 8-ball. Its worked for me so far (I think...it would take 40,000 games to be sure).

My magic 8 ball is a little old and worn out. The little floaty takes a lot longer to reach the top and then its faded and hard to read. I downloaded CuteChess to see if really fast games will help my floaty rise a little faster!

The emoticon was just for giving a sense of "i'm kindly asking for this with a bit of shyness". Just that. :D

The mention of sources is because when i eventually start Chess programming, i would like to have as many sources of Chess programs available and RomiChess is definitely interesting(actually all programs are interesting) with its unique learning stuff.

So it's kind of disappointing the sense i got from what you've said that you will not release the sources. Since i seem to have missed the discussion with the arguments that supports the non release of the code, can you shortly explain why these arguments exist? :?

There are two camps of thought.

1) open source is wonderful and leads to quick improvement in chess engine strength, period.

2) open source means lots of very similar chess programs and who needs that. Testers (most anyway) do not want to spend time and effort testing an engine just to find out that it is just more of the same. They like to test new original engines even though they might not be all that strong. Too have every new engine to be as strong as Fruit or stronger just seems phony to them. Also there is the cloning from source issue and all the hassle and ugly that goes with it. Also people tend to respect authors more if they struggled to create something from scratch that has a bit of uniqueness about it.

For me personally, the release of Fruit 2.1 was not helpful. If I had to say one way or the other, I would say that it was hurtful and still is. I do not enjoy all this Fruit, Rybka, Strelka, Ippo disharmony. I also have more selfish reasons for not liking open source engines that are monsters compared to RomiChess. If I ever get Romi up to Fruit 2.1 strength I will no longer continue to release the sources.
