Komodo 5 has just been released. At the moment only the SP version is
available but we have a prototype of the MP version that we are
working hard to get ready.

Please note that the 32 bit versions are not yet avaiable - but will
be available within the next couple of days. The web site is not very
clear on that point and our webmaster is on a long sabbitical.

Also please note that there will not be a Komodo 4.1 release. However
to fullfill our promise of Komodo 4 MP, you will be able to get both
Komodo 5 SP and MP for the same price you would have payed to get
Komodo 4 MP. Simply puchase Komodo 5 SP for the discounted price and
you will be able to obtain Komodo 5 MP for free when it's available.

Komodo 5 has many improvements and bug fixes over Komodo 4 and will
play a much stronger game.

- automatic SSE4.2 detection
- several evaluation improvements
- time control improvements
- search is better
- multipv implemention improved
- Hash table utilization better
- many others
Very good. Thanks Don and Larry. :)

While I don't expect that we will pass Houdini 2 on the blitz lists, I do have high hopes that we will do so on the intermediate level lists. I should also mention that although we have added automatic SSE4 detection, it appears to make an even larger difference with K5 than with K4; we really benefit from the newer processors.

Hello Don,

Do you have an ETA for the iOS version of Komodo?

Thank you,

Sean

Hi Don,

Congratulations for this timely move, very much appreciated :D

Did my proposal of "gentleman agreement" had any relevance to your decision or was it just a mere coincidence?

Very best regards.

We already agreed with your opinion, so I guess this makes it a coincidence.

It had no bearing whatsoever - we made the decisions about a week ago and 2 or 3 weeks ago we were talking about making another SP release. The biggest blocker was the komodo 4 MP promise, but we realized the way around that was to give Komodo 5 MP to previous customers at the same price. I think what we did was best.

I don't play games with the release schedule with respect to what someone else is doing, that really makes no sense since we cannot predict the future. We do what is best for us at the time. However we use some common sense - not to release too often or immediately after someone else has just released something in the same class. Promises and speculation are notoriously unreliable anyway.

I won't give you an ETA but we do plan to have a MAC version. I want to let the dust settle and get the 32 bit versions out - which I am trying to compile now.

Probably it will be within the week if all goes well.
