Graham,
I respect and admire your work. I know how it is important to many authors of engines that help you a lot with your tournaments.
I understand your desire not to take part in this, but the truth is simple and ease to find those who think with . 10,000,000 of games to 50 points Elo? It seems to me with pure tuning.
I consider the work of Hiarcs and Komodo as real development, Houdini is just tunning.

Dear Carlos, remaining in the argument i totally agree with you, i think, i believe, without the absolute certainty, that 10 million games are needed only if you are doing a work of tuning.

Same. It is crystal clear he is a very strong software engineer, and the gains he alone has gained over the original IPPO crop is evidence of that.

That makes three of us, plus Ilari. Tuning alone does not result in the increases in strength we have seen with Houdini. At its level of play, it requires the addition of ideas to add Elo. And it is obvious Robert has made an effort to add other features, such as the tactical mode.

1. Houdini 2.0c x64 8750.5/20000 (d=8.9 nps=1493097)
2. Houdini 3.0 x64 11249.5/20000 (d=9.2 nps=1564498)

Houdini 3.0 scores 56% and have a gain equal to 40 elo (+/- 4).

This time control is very short but I'll try later with longer time controls.
Again,my prediction of +40 Elo at best is becoming reality.....

You can stop breaking your arm patting yourself on your back, Ipon has Houdini 3 +50 Elo better. :)

I apologize to all if i am wrong but we are talking about 10 million games. If i had the time and the tools to run 10 millions game i could try all the settings that i want and after 13 months i cannot ''avoid'' to find a formula to gain at least 50 elo.

If he worked on the search, i hardly can believe that he needed so many games to achieve and to be sure of the improvement.

And Hiarcs 14 is 70 points higher than H13 and nobody said anything about it. Does Mark also played 10 million games to tunning Hiarcs 14?
