Toga II development versions

Post by jd1 »

Hi All,

Just in case anyone is interested, the latest development version of Toga II is available at:

http://www.computerchess.info/tdbb/phpB ... ?f=9&t=670

It is not nearly as sophisticated as Stockfish's auto-compiles, but I will post new development versions from time to time in this thread, whenever a significant gain in strength is achieved.

At this time it is probably about +20-30 elo (56-57% self-play), minus the slower compile (>10% slower than Jim's Intel compiles). There are only Windows, 32-bit GCC compiles in the package, one optimized for Intel machines, the other a more general optimization.

This is not an official release at all, so it is not worth testing by CCRL, CEGT, etc.

Jerry

# Changes:

Improved Search
- move count based pruning
- improved null move reduction (3 + depth/4 from Stockfish used)
- better usage of hash in quiescent search
- bad captures reduced less
- history aging
- improved history increment
- removed useless verification search

Improved Evaluation
- removed queen mobility, which not only was not worth elo, but also reduced orthogonality as its scoring was based on attacking the opposition king
- rook/queen on 7th rank improved
- pawn support bonus added
- knight outpost bonus improved (depends on no. of pawns now)
