Sampled search

Post by hgm »

It seems that Rybka 3 had a feature called 'sampled search', which is basically an extension of the UCI info currmove MOVE command: rather than only reporting when the search would get to a new root move, it would also report progress in PV nodes at deeper ply levels, through commands like

info sample e2e4 e7e5 g1f3 b8c6 icp 16 f1c4 f8c5 b1c3

where the ipc 16 indicated the deepest currently active PV node and the best scorefound there so far (16 centi-Pawn), followed by the best PV found there so far. Alternatives for the icp N would be the keywords isbetter, isworse or isunclear, to indicate the nodeso far is failing high or low.

Are there any other engines doing this, or plan todo this? And would it make sense to offer somespecial support for it in WinBoard?

Although this is another issue,
To add an engine how Stockfish with SyzyGy don't see in settings an option to the path of the tablebases.
¿ How to add the address ?.

You mean in WinBoard? This is controlled by the option -egtFormats, which can be set through the 'EGTB path' field in the Common Engine Options dialog. There you can type:

syzygy:G:\syzygybases

Or, when you have more flavors of EGT on your machine, give them as a comma-separated list:

scorpio:D:\chess\bitbases,syzygy:G:\syzygybases
