When a computer freezes it is by definition a hardware problem.

I never had a Windows OS freeze on me, either be it ver. 7, 8.1 or 10.0.
With Linux it might be different, at least I noticed a few times that window managers under Linux are not as stable as they should be.

Even when there are hardware problems Windows always notices it and you still get a message that something went bad before it terminates.
I suppose things have to be really gone very bad before it dies without warning.

Like Folkert already mentioned it looks very much like a case of bad memory.

BTW yesterday I sent you a PM about the compile but you probably missed it.
