I'll let Mark answer about Syzygy, but regarding Null Scale, we simply don't have any data on what value is best for very long think times. Even assuming that 28 is best for bullet chess, as we believe, the right value for 30 min/move might be quite different, but there is no strong argument as to whether it should be more or less. Naturally we welcome data on this; even games at say 5' + 3" between the default and some other value would be interesting. But we need a lot of games. We removed Magnify as it didn't seem as useful as the new options.cma6 wrote:Mark,
If one has an SSD for Syzygy TBs, should one use "Smart Syzygy"?
As for the default 28 for "Null Scale", would that also be best for analysis at long times (30 minutes)?
BTW, I notice that "Magnify" has disappeared.

Parameters
Thanks, Larry, hopefully as users experiment with different values of "Null Scale", we will get some data on this parameter.
Somewhat off topic, but I've been working my way through "Sabotaging the Gruenfeld" with Komodo and SF. Your book is filled with tense, unbalanced lines which make for great chess on both sides of the board!

Re: Parameters
Is "Progress Threshold" equivalent to H4 Pro's Fifty Move Distance.
In Houdini, the parameter allows users to modify the 50-move rule.
Very useful for Behting Study.

Re: Parameters
No, Progress Threshold is different. It is the number of half moves (moves by home side) since a capture or pawn move that Komodo uses to start pullings its evaluation towards 0. The fault in Komodo 10.1 is to do this after 30 half moves (15 moves per side). It this case, Komodo will not set the evaluation to 0 when it reachs 31 half moves. But it will start reducing the score, and make the score 0 when it reaches 100 ahlf moves (50 moves for each side).Nordlandia wrote:Is "Progress Threshold" equivalent to H4 Pro's Fifty Move Distance.

I think the Houdini setting likely sets the score to 0 immediately once that number of moves since a pawn moves or capture has been met. You can check with the Houdini author.

Re: Parameters
Smart Syzygy is designed for regular "spinning" hard drives. If you have all your Syzygy table bases on a SSD, then the default Komodo values are appropriate (Smart Syzygy off, etc).

Will there be a Komodo version for iPhone/iPad ? That uses the 2/3 cores ?

We have it on our list of things for the future, but it's not yet started. Jeremy is our guy for things like this, so it's up to him when and if he can do it.mclane wrote:Will there be a Komodo version for iPhone/iPad ? That uses the 2/3 cores ?

Why not a joint venture with a GUI that is on the market ?!
There are many nice GUIs that could profit from such a strong new engine,

Re: Komodo 10.1
Is this efficient to analyse this position ?lkaufman wrote:...
There are two interesting new options. One controls how aggressively Komodo uses Null Move. The other, "Progress Threshold" controls how many ply without pawn move or capture must elapse before Komodo starts to pull the score towards zero. We used 85 in the World Championship, but we made the default just 30 because this makes Komodo a better analysis tool and shortens boring drawn games. It also helps Komodo recognize fortress draws sooner.
