Unfortunately FICS (and ICC also) is slowly dying as it loses users to more modern chess servers. Just take a look at https://www.ficsgames.org/stats.html year by year.
It is not impossible support for other servers will follow if I there is an active demand for those. The underlying protocols are probably similar, so the incremental work compared to writing a client from scratch in Chess for Android may be relatively simple.
I focus on FICS right now just to limit the number of variables during development. Furthermore, I have a good relation with the FICS team. They have been very helpful during initial testing.
