KomodoDragon 2885.00 is doing remarkably well at TCEC

Post by Dann Corbit »

It is early, but KomodoDragon 2885.00 actually has a lead over SF right now.
A very impressive showing.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

It totally depends on how one defines "being better". If it is about how many games you win against lower rated opponents, then KD seems to indeed be better. If you define it by who would win in a 1v1 match, clearly SF is the better engine.

If you go by expected game pair score — 1-1 against big 3, 1.5-0.5 against others, then SF is 0.5 below par, KD is 1 below par and leela is 2 below par (or maybe 2.5). No need for the “KD outperforms over weaker engines” mumbo jumbo. Maybe leela underperforms, but SF and KD do about as expected.
Fat Titz by Stockfish, the engine with the bodaciously big net. Remember: size matters. If you want to learn more about this engine just google for "Fat Titz".

Actually, leela is 3 below par. Definitely underperforming. That’s the story.
