I turned 60 last week, got a powerful new laptop so I treated it to the Fritz 19 GUI last night. A new feature seems like an easy way to test myself against my opening files I already have in chessbase and against differing personalities. As I know from recent OTB tourneys, recalling lines when I haven't played (OTB) in ages can be...a 'challenge' in itself.
No interest in pushing it through matches against others and their engines so I think I and 99% of buyers will be perfectly happy with it.
Welcome, I'm 62.
This new "Database book" feature looks very nice. It's easy to prepare your repertoire to work with it. For me, I just have to put "White"/"Black" in the source field, I use the other fields (White/Black/Tournament) for other info.
It should also be easy to spar against your opponents, download the files and put "White"/"Black" in the source tag, and you have the book ready.
I use to travel to one big tournament each year, the national senior ch. Here, I know my opponents several months on forehand.

Here both players played incorrectly with Fritz 18 GUI[/b]. Here is the complete game:
Should I continue playing with such a GUI?
Nope, change to F19
Seriously, Eduard, if you aren't interested in the engine itself, probably no need to change from 18 (if it does work correctly as for the tbs now, my version 11 does, haven't had a update till then, never have them after the first few ones, if I once have a stable version, I always stick to it, if there isn't any publicly known bug to be repaired)
As for the engine, some more Elo in selfplay for sure there are, this one match is ongoing still, but I guess I can as well already stop, LOS is clear, just wanted to see head to head with single thread, 3'+1", UHO 6mvs 110-119:
Score of Fritz 19 vs PowerFritz 18: 99 - 39 - 164 [0.599]
Elo difference: 70.0 +/- 26.4, LOS: 100.0 %, DrawRatio: 54.3 %
302 of 500 games finished.
I wanted to see this for myself Peter! So I bought F19.
Dark Mode no found! Where is it?
(ChessBase: Die Oberfläche hat einen leicht modernisierten Look mit „Dark Mode“)
First BUG found - GUI 19 doesn't play 5-men Syzygy - oh no no!
GUI Syzygy is activated but only the engine is shown!

I probably will not have time to get into the new GUI for a while, but that's why I bought it (at the discount) as...well, it sure sounds like an easy way to practice the lines I've already made and keep in Chessbase 17.
The 'personalities' also sounded interesting. I played in a one round 4 game G/60 this Saturday. In the last round I was playing a kid on board 2...but a good one who plays REAL fast. I got an early edge, kept nursing it...was clearly winning until I got my rook trapped and had to sacrifice an exchange...which gave me a draw. BUT...the thing is I had spent SO MUCH TIME getting the better position (Black side of a Dutch) and prosecuting it that I got really low on time. I am hoping actually playing out the lines I have worked out will save me time at the board in the future.
Replay Arrows Below Board --> Buttons not to see in GUI 19:
GUI 19
If you activate Nachspielpfeile unter dem Brett then Slider (Schieberegler) is always visible - but I only want to see arrows (like in GUI 18) and nothing else! Slider cannot be deactivated.
GUI 18

Like allmost all of Chessbase products, Fritz 19 is a disappointment for me.
I expected something better and stronger than Fritz 19. Fritz 19 when it comes to playing strength doesn't even stand a chance compared to Stockfish, Leela and Komodo.
I now even argue that Fritz 18 (and Powerfritz 18) is the better choice. BUG with 5-piece, the slider is always activated under the board, but I only want to see arrows.
GUI 19:
GUI 18 (I want to see it like this, this is how I've loved it for decades):
Not possible under Fritz 19!
The promised dark mode is a joke if it means the Start menu window:

Right where it was before...only they call it 'style' and it is 'Black Theme'. Mine seems already set to it by default. Easy on the eyes.
You start a thread and immediately say it is not worth buying...then you do and on the same day. Enjoy...
I want to convince myself what works and what doesn't. I will continue to use fritz 18, it is better. Some of my friends have bought Fritz 19 and they ask me can you play with it on the server. Currently the answer is no! I'll pass this on to my friends on PlayChess. Back to Fritz 18 GUI version 10 is the current status.
