What are these figures :D ?

Stockfish 14.1
AMD CPU 50000 kn/s
Intel CPU 50000 kn/s
Apple CPU 28000 kn/s

Newest Stockfish dev on the same CPU
AMD CPU 55000 kn/s
Intel CPU 51000 kn/s
Apple CPU 56000 kn/s

My speedtest with 6 cores i5:

SF14 - 14,4 Mnps
SF14.1 - 13,1
SF15 - 11,4
SF15.1 - 11,8
SF16 - 12,0
SF16.1 - 6,8
SF17 - 5,3

SF17 has 40% of 14.1 speed!

Proof that intel CPU sucks ?
On a now old ryzen 9 5950x:
SF 14.1 43.4 MNps
SF 17 40.3 MNps
NB: both were compiled with the same command:

Code: Select all

make profile-build ARCH=x86-64-bmi2 COMP=clang
I use a similar bench to ipman site: "bench 1024 16 26"

We don't need ipman to delete his list. It's a good list.
We need him to make a second list.
I agree that a new list with SF 17 as base would be great !! 8-)

His asmFish list was base, then Stockfish 14.1 was base, you can't change each time to a new version.
Try to create a list like him, someone? it takes time to get all that data.

Thanks to ipman we get all these interesting benchlists :!:

No need to get to upset by the strawman to follow up on Graham's post. Maybe the forum needs an extra button for it but there are moderators and I am sure they will take action if required. The purpose is I think mainly to speed up dscussions, it's somewhere from the old communist handbook I think? Should we ban all the strawmen to the Kindergarten that will explode and probably closed by HGM, here it will be more quiet and it will be closed also perhaps. Never mind it's Halloween after all Jean Paul!
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

In regard of Ipman (SF 14.1) and posted (SF 16.1) benchmarks, your numbers do not seem right.

Ipman, SF 14.1, 5950X

Code: Select all

46.549.585	AMD Ryzen 9 5950X @4.3Ghz ddr4 3600 CL18	32threads	bmi2
36.861.106	AMD Ryzen 9 5950X @4.3Ghz ddr4 3600 CL18	16cores	avx2+LP	P.J
vs. ~24M NPS with SF16.1.

There must be a slowdown of newer SF versions with bigger net size, or not?

I committed entries there and won't re-benchmark because I don't have the CPUs anymore (sold off after system upgrades).

Good point - but maybe in the wrong thread? :)
