Computer chess community is international and maybe CCC has a wider range then a German forum.

There should be a 4th option in the poll:

"Yes , dedicated chess computer and vintage software are the roots of computerchess and should be discussed in the main forum."

Most obviously there is nothing wrong with discussing about dedicated units or vintage software in the main forum. It's just that there is no big interest in this topic, to put it mildly. Would this change somehow if they had their own subforum? No idea, but I certainly wouldn't mind if it were created.

This is a bit similar to the topic of odd games. As it is kind of hot and current right now, it can survive well in the main forum.

Dedicated chess computers are NOT the roots of computer chess. The engines, software and software authors are. Dedicated chess computers are a kind of fetish (commodification). Discussion of dedicated computers belongs on the main forum. There are not enough users in general to justify splitting into ever smaller sub forums.

That's a bad sign.

Should be allowed there and not OFF Topic

Sorry i have to disagree.
Thats YOUR opinion.
But it is the opinion of the people?
When i made computer chess in 1978
There were mainly dedicated units.
It took homecomputers + software very very long to climb to the same level of strength like the dedicated chess computer units.
One can say the first serious software was chess 7.5 on c64 and cyrus II (permanent brain) and Chessmaster2000, 2100 and colossus chess 4 or sargon III.
But the Homecomputers often had only 6502 with 1 mhz or z80 with 4 mhz (which is nearly similar).
When Richard Langs Psion Chess came to 16 bit Homecomputers like sinclair QL (68008) and Atari ST (68000) it was a real danger to dedicated chess computers.

If the moderators don’t like dedicated chess computers to be discussed in main forum for whatever reasons, i would advise to build a subforum for the friends of vintage software / dedicated chess computers .
This would separate the forums concerning topics.

My heroes are ron nelson, spracklens, kittinger, julio kaplan, ed Schroeder, frans morsch, ulf rathsmann, thomas nitsche and elmar henne, Martin Bryant, … mike johnson, david broughton, richard lang, ….

Imo this all belongs into a subforum.

Mark uniacke, Christophe theron, marty hirsch, don daily, and people like CW who began on Homecomputers and ended in todays hardware…. This maybe is a bridge builder to the main forum.

I have to disagree.
Dedicated chess computers are no FETISH.
Can you imagine computerchess without Nitsche+Hennes Mephisto 1,2,3 ?
Or Without Ed Schroeders Rebel 5, MM4/MM5
Or Frans Morsch without Supermondial or dominator ?
Or with richard lang and his Mephisto Machines who ruled amsterdam-Vancouver Championship ??

This a Fetisch??

Dedicated chess computers were special versions of software on weaker hardware.
