Re: benchmark new smartphones:
According to Anantech s800 is just the same architecture as the previous one differs only in build process. Snapdragon 800 is built on TSMC’s 28nm HPM (High Performance for Mobile) process as opposed to 28nm LP polysilicon (low power) of the previous one. So probably the only advantage we can get for Chess is the extended frequency reaching 2.3 ghz.Lion wrote:So what does that mean ?
Snapdragon 800 will not be good for chess ?

Re: benchmark new smartphones:
Thanks.
So probably the only current interesting contenders will be :
* Tegra 4
* Exynos with 8 CPU
* Intel

Add Apples 2-core A6x to your list, which scores 510 kNs on the iPad 4 running at 1.4 GHz.Lion wrote:So probably the only current interesting contenders will be :

The A6x is faster, than the 480 kNs reported for the 2-core Exynos 5 (Cortex A15) on the Nexus 10 @ 1.7 GHz.

Re: benchmark new smartphones:
No as you said, it "only" score about 510 kn/s because it has 2 cores.
So its much less than the 720kn/s I have on my Note 8.0
Probably the next gen iPad/iPhone will do better.

Wow, what an absolutely amazing thread! I've gone from an iPhone 4 to the Galaxsy S3 on AT&T. Next year when I purchase my new smartphone ill be sure to keep an eye on this thread.Max wrote:Add Apples 2-core A6x to your list, which scores 510 kNs on the iPad 4 running at 1.4 GHz.Lion wrote:So probably the only current interesting contenders will be :

So it seems that the best smartphone chips for chess are the Exynos, Tegra, and Apples' offering. It's really too bad that the Snapdragon is taking over this segment. Rumors are that the Note 3 will be snapdragon as well
I wonder if the Snapdragon 800 will bring anything new to the table?

So it would take place 4 in your list!
Kind regards,
JP.

Its Rockchip quadcore cortex A9 1.6ghz
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a31 ... hip_rk3188
Whats interesting is the specs says 28nm process so it should be cooler than the Tegra3(45nm) and Exynos(32nm) A9 variants.
