Hi everybody,
I am testing free and some commercial engines on my website (http://www.ordichec.net), Blitz (40 moves/5 minutes) and Lightning (1'+1'') games.
Recently I bought Chessmaster 10 and got the engine The King 3.33. I learned how tu use it under Arena (for example) but I cannot find any information about how to make The King use its engame database under Arena. I mean the files you find in the directory data\EGDB in the directory of Chessmaster.
Is there a way to make The King use those endgame database because The King cannot use the traditional Nalimov tablebase (up to my knowledge).
Thanks you very much for your help,
I hope to come soon with more interesting posts.
Regards,
Fabian

No way you can make it to use the endgame database under Arena, only under it's native GUI....genorb wrote:Hi everybody,

Re: The King 3.33
This is very strange because somehow The king must access to those database when he computes, when he searches for the best move. So the engine must know where those files are. Correct? So there must exist some option that the engine understand, I mean something like
EGDBpath=...
The chessmaster GUI must say to The King where to look for the files no?
Or there is something that I do not understand correctly about how the engine use those engame databases...

Hi, make a short test under Chessmaster GUI and you will see,
the Chessmaster egtbs are only accessed when the position is already on the board.
CM engine does not use egbts in its search. So I think its the GUI which make the egtb access.

Re: The King 3.33
Ok thanks for the information. So The King doesn't know about engame database, it doesn't use it.
Let me know also if I understand correctly, this means that if there is let say 6 pieces on the board (suppose that we use the chessmaster GUI) and if there is only one move that doesn't lead to a draw (or a loss), The king cannot use the endgame databse to help in the search but once there is 5 (I am not sure if all the 5 men database are present in chessmaster) or less piece on the board then the GUI start to play the moves instead of The King.
Is that correct?
Thanks again for your help!

Right, the GUI enable the access to the engine....Werner wrote:Hi, make a short test under Chessmaster GUI and you will see,

Ok I understand now and I also understand why it is hopeless to try to make The King use those endgame databases, simply because The King cannot use them!

Re: The King 3.33
Hi Fabian,
Everything that Werner said is correct, except for the part about 5 pieces. The endgame database generator that Johann wrote can generate 6-man files, although none come with Chessmaster. So if you want to take the time to generate them, then they can be accessed inside the CM GUI.
But, no, The King never accesses the databases directly.
