Here is a position from a CCRL game in which CM11 and Rybka played a very interesting game. (Sorry, no idea about the hardware or personality settings -- it was posted on the Chessmaster forums).
[d]2rr2k1/p2qbppp/1p2p3/3nP3/2NB4/1P3QP1/P4PKP/2RR4 w - - 0 21
Does your engine play 21.Bxb6 here? If so, what's the eval?
Also, how does your favorite engine evaluate the position after all of the material is off the board after 21.Bxb6 axb6 22.Nxb6 Rxc1 23.Nxd7 Rxd1 24.Qxd1 Rxd7?
[d]6k1/3rbppp/4p3/3nP3/8/1P4P1/P4PKP/3Q4 w - - 0 25
I've never seen a game in which the offsetting material was QPP v RBN, especially with both pawns being connected and passed. But The King managed to win both pawns cleanly, and by the end of the game was going to win at least two more without losing any material at all. Very well played!
Finally, I think Rybka's 7.Bb3 was a poor move. Does anybody know if it was from the opening book?
Here's the full game:

Re: Test Position -- Rybka 2.3.2 v CM11
John, im glad i caught you here. and i apologize for my remarks not having to do anything about your thread- but please bear with me here. CM9000 and 10th Edition are the same in this respect. I would love your take on reason concerning why when playing any personalities, it was not set up so they could resign lost positions. When winning, it gets a bit ridiculous at times watching the opponent shuffling around in no-mans'-land, so to speak. There must have been some discussion about it at the time.
Thanks,
George

Re: Test Position -- Rybka 2.3.2 v CM11
Indeed, during the development of CM8000 and CM9000 we had some heated discussions, and honestly I can't fully remember which side of the debate I was on!
But I'm pretty sure that the final reasons were two-fold. Firstly, Johan did not want to implement resignation into his engine. Secondly, Chessmaster is a learning tool and we wanted people to have to play the games all the way to checkmate.
This last argument is a bit weak, as we at least could have made it an option. But it supported Johan's argument, so we never put it in. Not sure why the developers of CM10 and 11 didn't implement it, though.

Thank you, John. My first thought was the "learning tool" reason. I could not think of another. I would love to have been able to hear those discussions!

And while I've got YOU here
, do you happen to know the hardware and/or personality settings used for this CCRL game?

Looking at the PGN, with the name saying "Chessmaster 11" , i can tell you for sure it is not an offshoot, so to speak, but the "Default King" settings. As for the hardware, i would have no way to know without knowing who actually turned the game in.JVMerlino wrote:And while I've got YOU here, do you happen to know the hardware and/or personality settings used for this CCRL game?

Best,
George
PS: On 2nd thought, some of the stats, parameters, or whatever you would like to call them in the PGN header look funny to me. Im not entirely sure this is actually a CCRL game. Tho a good one, at any rate.

Graham, i didnt mean anything derogatory by saying the header looked "funny". Im not really sure why i said that except the round number caught my eye.
