This may seem like a silly question but with Deep Fritz 12 (or 11) do you need to insert the DVD everytime you want to use the program? That is one of the reasons I have avoided purchasing Fritz products. Does this apply to Deep Fritz 10 as well?

Thanks!

You will need the CD every once in a while to run the DF engine. The GUI works OK with other engines though and the nag popup to put the DVD in does not happen with the other UCI engines. I have to say this is one of the most annoying things with regards to DF or Fritz engines and I usually end up not using the DF engines except when I want to do a tourney. I wish CB would stop doing this idiotic thing with their engines. This does not happen with other CB engines such as Deep Rybka or Deep Shredder etc..

Are you talking about DF10 and DF11? I bought both from Chessbase
store, and I do not need to put the CD to run DF engines.

As far as I know, the DVD is requested by the GUI, because of missing files on HDD (like 3d set or .wav files). You should be able to avoid the messagebox if you copy the entire DVD properly into the DF directories.
p.s. Advices for downloading any sort of cracks are not compatible with this forum (at least I hope so)!

If I have bought the GUI why I can't «patch» it to avoid those annoying restrictions?

What kind of harm can I bring to the developer using such small and very useful utility? He has already got my money for his program that is full of discomfort for me.

If I would share patched program with others who had not paid for it any cent...
But I don't do it!

Read again what i post. Whether you are going to use that it's your choice.
Advices and advertising of cracks in this forum are something else (IMHO).

Thanks everyone for the help and replies. Now if you were going to buy one Fritz engine (10, 11 or 12) for FUN which would you recommend? I am not really considering purchasing it for analysis but more for a fun training and playing engine. I have heard that Fritz 10 was fun. What would be your opinions?

Thanks again!

For fun I recommend strongly Deep Fritz 10,it's playng style is amazing....since Fritz 11 it the playing style is more fishy to say the lease....understand boring 8-)
