Those who have followed the SSDF Rating List for some years are
probably familiar with the irregular intervals between it's appearances.
This time it has passed nearly five months since the latest list in
late November. The reason for the present delay is not lack of test
objects, but rather a shortage of time to spend on computer chess.
In this first list of 2007 we can present SSDF ratings for six new
entrants. Out of them four are PC-programs, one is a chess program
for handheld computers and one is a module for a regular chess
computer.
Christophe Thérons latest program is Chess Tiger 2007, tested on
Athlon 1200 MHz. Compared to CT2004 which now is nearly three years
old, the rating for Chess Tiger 2007 has risen 50 points up to 2776!
A free update of Amir Bans and Shay Bushinskys program Junior 10 appeared
some time ago. Since Junior 10 then held the second place of the list, we
decided to give it a chance. After 563 tournament games Junior 10.1 has gained
16 points compared to it's predecessor. Junior 10.1 now has a rating of 2867 and
the fourth place.
Mark Uniacke holds the third place with Hiarcs 11.1 A1200. The rating
is 2871, which is 26 points more than Hiarcs 10 HyperModern has. So far only
189 games has been played.
In first place is Vas Rajlichs Rybka 2.3.1 A1200, tested under the Arena GUI
with Wael Deebs opening book. Rybka 2.3.1 has a SSDF rating of 2962 after
252 tournament games. The rating increase is 53 points!
Resurrection Fruit'05 is a module for the Mephisto boards from the eighties,
Modular, Exclusive and München. It's produced by Ruud Martin and contains
a StrongARM processor from Intel running on 203 MHz and versions of four
different chess programs. We have tested Fruit CCC'05 written by
Fabien Letouzey. After 100 tournament games it has a rating of 2387, which
makes it the strongest traditional board chess computer, 114 points ahead
of R30 v. 2.5.
Pocket Fritz 2 is a chess program for certain handheld computers, marketed
by ChessBase. The program is written by Stefan Meyer-Kahlen. The name of the
handheld computer which we have used is Asus MyPal 620BT, and it has a XScale
processor running on 400 MHz. After 117 games the rating for Pocket Fritz 2
XScale 400 MHz is 2517, making it the strongest non-PC entrant on the SSDF
Rating List.
Compared to the latest list Rybka 1.2 A1200 has lost nine points,
Spike 1.2 has now 15 points less and Zap!Chess has gained eight rating
points.
During the coming months we continue to test Rybka 2.3.1, Hiarcs 11.1 and
Fritz 10.
