Re: Chess System Tal 2.1 EAS
Many years ago I created settings for Zappa Mexico II. They were called "Dissident Aggressor" The idea was to change the style of play. For that, I believe I did so. But, now fast forward to today we have Chess Tal 2.1 EAS. This to me is the pinnacle of chess engine evolution when regarding the ability for the engine to play very strong chess, but choose a much different plan. Tal would be proud! Thank you Chris!

Re: Chess System Tal 2.1 EAS
How do these versions of chess system Tal compare with the original versions from many years ago, style wise? I seem to vaguely recall the original CSTAl versions being even more sacrificial and unorthodox/ wild, but perhaps I am being sentimental (or forgetful) or just mistaken as they were among the first computer chess programs that I tried years ago. I am considering attempting re installing some of those original programs but if they are similar style wise ?

Re: Chess System Tal 2.1 EAS
Difficult to answer about questions of style, I understand what the old HCE versions were doing because I engineered the sacrificial functions myself. The NN versions are a law unto themselves, one can try and influence but with more or less not too much control of why they do what they do.

Re: Chess System Tal 2.1 EAS
I remember this setting, it was one of the most aggressive chess I've seen during that time. Pretty effective against humans.Robert Flesher wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 4:52 pm Many years ago I created settings for Zappa Mexico II. Re: Chess System Tal 2.1 EAS
What I really like about Chess System Tal 2.1 so far is the way the games develop if for some reason it doesn't get the chances to set up the usual often enough favourable mess (e.g. because the opponent is plenty strong).
This is a clear weakness of Patricia - sometimes it just looks plain dumb and overtuned with its sacs even for mediocre humans. With CST you get something like this, which looks respectable enough:

Re: Chess System Tal 2.1 EAS.

This a typical game for CSTal.
Note 14.Nf5 a knight sacrifice with a positive score of +1.92 black happily accepts with Qxf5 also with a positive score of 1.96, so a difference in evaluation of almost 4 pawns.
15.c4 Qd7 the difference in evaluation score is now 5 pawns.
16. Nb3 Nxc4 the difference in evaluation score is now 6 pawns.
17. Nc5 evaluation score difference is now 8 pawns, black has no idea what's coming to him.
20...Qc8 finally SF12 HCE (the search wonder) sees the loss.
