I cant believe that I missed out on such a strong engine. It's a beast I say, coming ahead of commercials such as Zappa and Sjeng 2.7 is a great achievement. Also, it is currently the 5th strongest free engine on my list.

Next engine on my list is Alfil, it will play in my 3rd division. From what I have seen it shouldnt have much problem in promoting to 2nd.

There are logos available for Alaric, all three of them were made by Graham at my request. I only have one of them currently, here it is.

Peter Fendrich wrote in an e-mail several months ago that he had already written an improved version that was playing better than Alaric 707. I have not written to him since and he has not posted anymore, here or in the Winboard Forum, but at least I think 707 is not even the strongest version. I have no idea whether Peter has found the time to continue working on Alaric since then. I think Guenther Simon is still working on a stronger book for Alaric, at that time it was already version 5 that he had made.

I am pretty sure that he will continue to make improvements as he hasnt shown any signs of slowing down and this is only the 4th public version. The private versions that I played with were at least 100 points weaker, and they werent in the top 30 (all engines). Now it is currently the 5th strongest freeware engine, and 15th or 16th strongest engine over all in blitz on a 32 bit single cpu computer.
