I think there must be something wrong with the search in the new Crystal, but if that would affect gameplay too then there is hope for Elo gain because this would seriously undermine performance, but it probably does not show up in games, or I did something wong.

Hi Peter, no, you are right I do not think that is possible. It was just an attempt (fabricated) to see if the Queen sacrifice motif could still work, if White's king was far enough advanced to defend horse. But king takes back and sacrifice directly does not work. Then a whole lot of analysis with old Crystal 6 (see thread page two) to see if White then could win and it seemed to me that it did, but very slowly. But now Crystal has refuted 3.Kh3 {?!?} So Queen sacrifice works again! But White does not have to go back with his king indeed it would be cowardly, so it still is to be proven conclusively, that White can't win

Still it is a nice find, maybe Black draws this and Crystal 6 did not find it at least not at this spot, I did not research 3.Kh3 much though that was more a human move although I think that was the PV.

As 3.Kh3 seems to be refuted now by Crystal 9 in its research. I thought I better see if White has better. I'm not quite sure if it is Black's best play but anyhow with enough depth White's score is rather convincing if played an alternative. As Joouni has mentioned elsewhere Crystal 5 gets big depths with its small networks and that is what you want here, more iterations so search has a chance to explore the whole tree, not single lines that run away in the distance. Crystal is not to be blamed, I have not actually checked but it is likely that for the nth time Stockfish is doing these double or even triple extensions

They are deadly, but Stockfish gets away with it because it prunes so much, the chances of explosion are just manageable. Not on long runs I think and most certainly not for Crystal that, well, explores where Stockfish just prunes. I am just guessing here have not checked either sources for many years. Joseph knows best what to do.

Didn't notice till now, that I wrote nonsense there

Of course 3.Rf2 was 1-0 Lc0-SF, the lost game of Lc0's playing Black was after forced 3.Kh3? and 9...Kh7? in a game against SF, without this one second blunder all the other games after 3.Kh3? ended drawn.
