Do somebody have news about YACE ?

Post by Vinvin »

YACE, the stronger engine in pawns endgame (and strong in other endgame too), plays a tournament recently, is there plan to release a UCI version ?

Hi Vincent,

YACE is an UCI Engine since a long time.

Here one of the first tournament by YACE 0.99.56 in the UEL.

Amicalement,

Greetings to Dieter Buerssner !
Yace is #40 at the moment in my comparison of free single-CPU engines.

I also hope to see a new stronger version!

I am afraid there is not much to hope for. It has been very silent regarding Yace, for a very long time.

As for the ranks, Yace achieved rank #18 in W.Eigenmann's endgame test (100 pos.), which included results from many commercial engines. For example, Junior 10.1 ranks #26 and Chessmaster 9000 ranks #37.

Yace is also famous for it's backward analysis performance (hash learning). It was one of the first engines with that feature in good quality.

I believe I have seen Yace play on ICC under the account Yace...

The latest version is the ACCAWCRCC, for the WCRCC tournament. I do not think it is available for download.

It finished 16th in the tournament which can be found here:

You can see its finger notes here:

I chatted with Dieter during the Romi vs Yace game, from what he told me, he is back with a vengeance..Darn it, I should have asked him for a copy of his engine.. I was filled with awe for talking to a legendary programmer, I didnt think about bugging him.

I exchanged a few words with him too and he told me that he was talked in participating at this event by a spanish friend who would also be operating Yace. He also said that he was absent from computer chess for quite some time and wouldn't be up to date therefore.

For some odd reason I forgot to ask if we would see a new version of Yace

best regards

He was talking about Armando Costa, the booker. Dieter told me that he let him play the odd openings because he is the one that inspired him to start programming once again.
