Are there programs that can see advantage for white?

Post by Uri Blass »

This is an evaluation question

The following position from Rybka-Shredder WCCC 2007

Rybka3 cannot see based on evaluation that white is better(I still did not try rybka3 dynamic that may be better)

I wonder if there are strong programs(at least CCRL rating of 2800) that can see based on evaluation that white is better.

It may be possible to see it based on search but I guess that no program can see it based on search after few seconds.

Shredder has played a very uncomfortable opening line to say the least 8-)

[d]rnb2rk1/1p1n1pp1/p2Bp2p/q7/4N3/4Q3/2PRB1PP/4K2R b K - 0 1

I see no problem with that. If you could show Kasparov or Anand this position for the first time they could not tell you that white is better in this position either. So how can you expect programs with their max 2000 Elo evaluation to evaluate it right.

In some positions with one side underdeveloped for material his development comes too late and in some positions his development comes just in time. How can you know without search?

[d] 5r1r/4b3/ppp1p3/3kP1p1/PPpP4/2B1KP1P/6P1/1R4R1 b - - 0 33

In this position from a game posted below I expect a commercial program to see compensation for black.
I see a Monster King on d5, a Monster pawn on c4 a good bishop vs. a bad bishop and two half open files for black.
Shredder evaluated this position about +1 for white, foolishly opened up the position and lost. This case should be solvable by evaluation.
In the position you posted I can not expect a program to see it based on evaluation. Only a tiny little difference in the position and black might be winning.
