I don't think it is a false positive because the computer becomes inoperable. I can not access anything because it tells me most files are corrupted.
Tom,this sounds like a worm infection to me....
Can you please go to the ESET online scanner and make an online scan :!: :?:

I have already erased my hard disk and restored the system. So the worm would be gone right?
Yeap,that will do it....

Is there a better anti-virus than avg? I have heard Norton is better.
No,stay away from Norton, once installed in your operation system, the PC is no longer yours 8-)

ESET NOD,Avast! or Kaspersky are some of the good programs that I recommend....
I am using Avast! 2009 right now and I am fully satisfied....

Kaspersky and ESET NOD32 seem to score the best on tests from what I looked at. Dunno about Avast. Definitely DON'T get Norton, it's worse than a virus.

Why forum moderators allow somebody with little knowledge about the
problems in his computer start a topic called

Critter download unleashes a virus...AGAIN

Placing shadow over Critter engine. With a topic like this, containing tree
pages one can think (without reading all): "There is some problem with
Critter & a virus. Better stay away."

What bothers me big time is the "...AGAIN" part. It makes look
him as an advanced guy with vast knowledge who managed to find not
one but two times a virus there.

I'm sorry if this message sounds to hard for the topic starter
Better be sure, ask friends or post PM in cases like this. You cant start a
topic like this.

Fortunately, other people have been much more helpful than you. And I wanted the critter author to know that this has happened twice (thus the again in the title) so he could check it. I do not know why it occurred but it did happen both times when I tried to use a Critter engine version for the first time. I do think that is a bit more than a mere coincidence.

Again I am thankful that others were more helpful than you as I now have some better choices regarding anti-virus software.

Well, yes you lucky other people decide to help you after so false topic title.

YOU are the one need to contact and admin and ask to change topic title or be deleted or moved into other furum section.

You are not a victim to write as you done in last message. Im not obligated to be nice or help you. Im just pointing that what you initiated is very unfair to critter autor.

And in 3 pages i never read your apologize to him!!

SOme people never changes!

Hi Ignacio

in the first sentence of Toms' lead post he mentions he in no way is casting blame on the creator of the program
i dont think anyone answering this thread is taking this as an insult against the program itself or its author
the problem seems to perhaps be with the site
no need for there to be an argument about this
Best Regards

Hi Steve

Tom does not like to harm the author. But for 2 days every time I load
this *very popular* forum where many people writes and much more
read (including hight amount of unregistered visitors) see on top list the "criter & virus" thing.

The harm is done every time someone loads this forum and having a topic called like that.

Fact 1: Tom says "Critter download unleashes a virus...AGAIN"
Fact 2: Critter has no virus.

Do we engine testers, fans, (critter fans?) etc have to read all this 3
pages nonsense about Tom asking if formating his computer drives
worms away?

I see you are a moderator and I hope you understand the big mistake this thread is...

Maybe we should stop being so sensitive about what other people may think about *bla bla bla*.

Do you see the author of Critter complaining about this thread? No.

So stop creating problems where there is none.

Yes. They do. Or they don't. It's their choice. The only thing this thread will do to the world it that people will reconsider the quality of their virus protection, which is a good thing.
