Chess Tiger still has problems evaluating the above position and reckons the position is = and wants to play 1.Bd7, the only move that wins is 1.Ka6 and even when shown the winning move it still insists that it is draw.Game plays on as follows.
1.Ka6 Ke1
2.Ba5 Ke2
3.Bd7 d1=B and Tiger still thinks black is O.K
4.Bg4+ and now Tiger sees the danger and evaluates +9.16 for White.
This must be bug in program as I am told that CT uses hash-tables and can be seen from evaluations that it is wrong.

The new version 2011.02 shows the rating from whites point of view (if you want), has more levels and comes with a collection of about 3.600 games from masters and world-champions. Some bug-fixes and engine improvements are also good news. The price is now 0,79 € so everybody who hesitated (old price 4,99 €) should buy this great app right now!
It changes his name to CHESS - maybe to force a better search result at the App-Store. I miss the old tiger-icon and of course the universal App
New name because I have been threatened of legal action by several companies, one of them *big*.
Think about where I'm selling this and if "Tiger" reminds you of a known product.
You can still find the product if you seach for "Chess Tiger" anyway.

Thanks!

Seriously, that sucks... Short minded people bothering you with that??? As far as I know, Chess Tiger is older than OSX Tiger, right ?
(And yes, I understand that you didn't have much choice, as argumenting with the big company distributing your program wouldn't be a good idea...)

Ouch. May I ask (and more pertinently, may you say) who the Other companies are?tiger wrote:New name because I have been threatened of legal action by several companies, one of them *big*.
Congrats on your update, BTW. Had I owned an iOS device, I think this news would have convinced me to buy your program. Then again, perhaps I would have bought it already at its old price, had I been able to afford an iOS device in the first place.

I cannot talk about this. But it was not just THIS company.
But frankly it is not a big problem. It does not seem to be affecting sales in any way. And the app has been getting fabulous reviews all around the world since it has been released, which is boosting its ranking. Update + excellent ratings + price drop => ranking goes up. Very simple.
Those who want to find the app can still find it by searching for "chess tiger".

I am not allowed to talk about the trademark problem, sorry.
Have you considered an iPod touch? It is a GREAT device. It's an iPhone without the phone, but with everything else. And it's not expensive at all.
Chess Tiger runs perfectly even on the very first iPod touch, and the performance is pretty good. On the iPod touch 4 Chess Tiger computes 150kn/s (250kn/s later in the game).
And if you have Wifi at home or at work, you almost do not need a laptop anymore. I know some will disagree, but since I have an iOS device I'm not using my ASUS netbook anymore. It's just collecting dust now.

Re: ChessTiger Update
Thank you for your detailed answer.
Furthermore, I'm a programmer and my fingers are fairly large. My laptop will enjoy my friendship for years to come, and in no way be replaceable by an iPod Touch unless I change my usage patterns.
For many, this would be sound advice. My phone's monthly charge is currently cheaper than a smart mobile's data plan, and this is important to me.tiger wrote:Have you considered an iPod touch? Re: ChessTiger Update
While surfing along these news, I just found that your Palm Tiger is free now.
Many thanks!
I never had a Palm although they always attracted me. Now I found a simulator for the Palm OS Cobalt 6.1 which runs in XP. I guess the simulator is intended to run at original speed of some Palm version. I don't find a speed setting for the simulator.
I get TigerMarks of ~1.45...1.50 here, with a P4. Set to 6 MB hash, I get ~1,000...1,100 pos./sec. in the starting position.

Sorry, but can't you show that you have used the name PRIOR to whatever claims they are making, which would basically mean their claim is bunk?tiger wrote:UncombedCoconut wrote:Ouch.
