Thank you for not showing us pages and pages and pages of analysis.

I wish forums like this provided a widget with scrollbars for stuff like this as will as a widget for playing through a game. Such widgets exist.

That the position is lost we can both agree, but that move proves it beyond any doubt.
Indeed :D

But yet again, the thread title is a little bit misleading as it gives you the impression that a novelty was found with Stockfish while building an opening book....
Dr.D

Greetings Doc,

There is nothing misleading about the title of the thread as a cook has been found by Stockfish in a book line which albiet is rarely played, and wasn't necessarily known as lost until the cook was found. In fact out of all the databases I have there are six games in which the line was played up to move 14. with three wins for white and three wins for black.

I'm thinking that perhaps you may have mistakenly associated the words "cooking the opening book" with building an opening book.

Andrew R. Case
Hi :D

Indeed,I did although weeding is more proper than cooking in this case
Cheers,
Dr.D

Is this position a loss for black if white does not play Nxe6? The answer to whether this is a real find hinges on that in my opinion. If Nxe6 is just another way to win then it's not that interesting.

What would make it a find is if there is no other clear win and the fact that Nxe6 had not been discovered.
Exactly my point....

But I don't think the position is a loss for black unless Nxe6 is played. If I'm right, Nxe6 is an interesting find because it is the only known win and presumably it was not known until now.

We need to get a really deep searching program analyzing the position without the benefit of Nxe6. Komodo see's that white has a small advantage but nothing nearly enough to claim victory (until of course Nxe6 is discovered.)

Yes, Nxf6 is the only way to acute fast winning and then again we're talking about superior tactical abilities involved to find this move, human wise that is....

On the other hand,I think that black's position is doomed enough and even with slower positional approach, white can achieve the victory with ease....

I'll run Stockfish-2.2.2 (8 threads) with MultiPV=3 and report back.
