What's this engine ?

Please, use the complete name "Meph" -> "Mephisto".

Those programs are all out of date now!@
May be but it's all about Computer Chess History !
Only out of date in the sense that they are a few years old. They would still beat most Chess players and give anyone below IM level a tough game. You would probably learn a lot more playing against an engine of this strength than against one of 3000+ elo!?
That statement makes about as much sense as Hiarcs selling for US$ 79.99!!
With a great GUI, databases and an opening book included!

It does make sense you learn by playing somebody slightly better than you not somebody 3000+ elo.
Nope, still does not make sense!
It is the same in any sport you improve and learn by playing someone a bit better than you. You learn nothing by being destroyed by the best player in the world.
Nope, the US$ 79.99 for a Walmart bargain-bin program worth about ten-bucks! Why not ask Chess.com if you can use H-Explorer as a GUI for their website, it would have added value then :D
I see you just want to troll.

Is Hiarcs worth $79.99? I am sure that is open to debate.

Is Hiarcs a "Walmart bargain bin program worth about 10 bucks"? Only true in the sad, miserable minds of people such as Mr. Sean Evans.

Oh, there is Adam Pubic-Hair breaking the Charter again! Hiarcs based on its ELO strength is a Tier 2 or Tier 3 class program. It cannot justify the price being asked. Harvey's argument that it is a database and GUI is a red-herring, there are many free databases and GUIs. Keep on trolling Adam! Posted by the happy-minded and loving Mr. Sean Evans.

Worth is based off what's available and not how useful something is. For example water is nearly valueless since it is very abundant. But no one would doubt it's usefulness. Hiarcs simply isn't worth that amount due to what's already available and what they are available for. Imo, Hiarcs should be around $20 at most. This would generate at least some sales since $20 is not a lot to most people. Hell, I might buy it then although I may or may not use it.

192 is a mystery because even the oldest backup i've got (from SSDF list issued on 2-Oct-2001) shows:

Code: Select all

  79 192 64MB P200 MMX 2249 44 -46 248 41% 2317
