Komodo is also knowledge-based as well (I would think that it far more extensive than Hiarcs); Stockfish too has an extensive evaluation function. There is absolutely no reason to believe that Hiarcs would be better suited as an analysis engine compared to a lot of other engines out there. If you really want a knowledge-based instructor go get lessons from a FIDE Master; you will get no better analysis of human ideas, intuition, and play than from the human players themselves. But Deep Hiarcs itself for the price being asked for is ludicrous. The reasons should be obvious.

Nobody should need to spend 100 dollars for a GUI and/or engine. Mark can ask for whatever price that he believes his product(s) are worth. Ultimately, people need to be wise. Either look for free GUIs and engines, or GUIs/chess engines that are reasonably priced.

The only GUI that I have bought within the last three years is the Chessbase GUI. It actually does have its perks; however, it is very expensive.

The poll numbers speak for themselves.

The poll is not representative.
Those interested in a strong and intelligent chess program will buy it.
Komodo and stockfish are strong chess programs. But they are not hiarcs.

Note that if everyone would find it worth the price, this would imply it is priced too low. Economy is not politics. You don't get anything extra by having the majority of customers buy your merchandise. What you do is optimize the profit x customers product.

Is it still promoting like world champion? :P
Then along with the price I think you can make a case for fraud.

Yes, the Hiarcs program is claiming "The World Computer Chess Software Champion", they left out the detail that was 25-years ago  That is like saying Crafty is the WCCC!!

I did buy it - with the $10 iPhone discount - it was close enough. Have always enjoyed the way HIARCS plays. I should have paid attention to who the put the poll up - my bad.

Agreed, if anything a poll at CCC would be skewed in favour of Hiarcs, but still people are agreeing it is over-priced. If this was asked at say Chess.com where people are not Computer Chess enthusiasts it would be much worse for Hiarcs!

The online manual states this:

HIARCS Chess Explorer is an exciting new chess program for PC and Mac chess players which can run on both PC Windows and Apple Macintosh OS X computers with native look and feel.

However the same manual several pages later states these as the requirements for running the software:

HIARCS Chess Explorer has the following system requirements:

PC Windows
Requires: PC MS Windows™ XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows8 (all editions and versions 32 & 64 bit)
Computer: Any Intel or AMD with at least 512Mb RAM running one of the OSs above

So this seems contradictory since one sentence says it runs on Mac OS X and the system requirements say Windows only.

Does it run on Mac OS X with native look and feel? Or not?

If it is sells for 70euro, then the equivalent in $ would be about $75 not $100.
