There may be a memory corruption problem.

In Authors group Schooner-Gogobello, Schooner played 49...Rxb6??

The cannot be replicated in console mode. Sergio's tournament results are in line with what I achieve in my own tests with Arena. Graham Banks results are way out of line. It makes me think there is something wrong somewhere. Possibly:

(1) ChessGUI. ChessGUI may be is allocating something differently for xboard based programs. I have a version but am still trying to get it to play a tournament. It has no window resizing so it takes a special setup and special time for me to test, and I have other things tying up my computer.

(2) Memory corruption on Graham Banks hardware. Run a memory test to make sure the hardware memory is not corrupt. Indeed, the error looks like exactly the type of error that could occur with a memory corruption.

There is further corroborative evidence of memory corruption. The game looks like a comedy of errors on both sides with both Gogobello and Schooner making questionable moves. For example, is Gogobellos 47...Rh6?? which no master strength engine would duplicate.

(3) I/O interference. If there is mouse clicking or something going on in the background, it might be interfering with the winboard based pipe I/O. While I cannot yet find any problem on my hardware, it is still a remote possibility of memory corruption. I noticed that Andrew Grant complained about the same type of error where moves cannot be duplicated in the post analysis. UCI and Winboard use different types of I/O I think.

Schooner requires an "xboard" command be sent first as part of the Chess Engine Communication Protocol. If "xboard" is not sent, then something like a key press may cause the move now command "?" to be triggered and the engine may abort before the first ply is completed. Any random move then could then appear. If ChessGUI has a debug file of the games, then it would be a simple task to eliminate this possibility.

Adenda note:

The original game results indicate what appears to be a sudden 0% use of time for Schooner, and a reduced time for Gogobello.

I checked one game and see a serious time management problem.
No idea if it is a bug in Schooner or a setup problem of the time control,
because so far I had no time to play with Schooner.

Schooner burns nearly all time of the second period (move 41-80) already
after 6 moves and is left with a time handicap of 25-40:1 for the rest moves, which of course leads to a loss!

Edit: This happens in all games of Schooner!
