I didn't know he had such a hard life growing up during WW2. I have all his books I believe and the 5 book Endgame set is one of my most Valued Books. Thanks for posting a link it was a great read. RIP to Yuri Averbakh.

I met him about 15 years ago. His ability to do meaningful work in old age is an inspiration. Today is still a bad time to be alive because the very best is yet to come.
Today the maximum database size in Chessbase is only 5 million games but in a million years from now everyone could have at least 400 billion games.
Also today we have Fritz 18 but in a million years from now we will have Fritz 100,000 and much more poweful computers for everyone.
Also we still don't have any idea of how the human body truly works at the most fundamental levels.
You can say what you want but I think that 2022 is still a bad time to be alive.
