Auto discovery in Chess for Android

Post by Poltrune »

Hi All,

Android 13 on Alldocube tablet. Downloaded Berserk_13 from SourceForge, ChessEnginesforAndroid.

No problem with Droidfish 1.90 or ScidOnTheGo 1.55, but I can't figure out where to put the engine executable so it will be accessible by ChessforAndroid 6.9.0. Tried version 6.8.2, same deal.

A youtube video shows what a populated engine list looks like. I am seeing the exact opposite.

Scanned through 406 msgs resulting from a search on the term 'abik'. Did not notice anything relative to the situation (but I could have missed something!).

Though I am capable of any degree of dumbness, the possibility asserts that auto discovery is not going to work on this tablet. The file is now in several locations, including Main_Storage/Android, Main_Storage/Android/data, Main_Storage/Download, and (har) Main_Storage/Chess_for_Android. Some obvious blunder here? :|

I see what appears to be a pretty exhaustive stash of releases of Chess for Android at https://aart-bik-chess.en.uptodown.com/android. Hoping that it is not faux pas to inquire the last release that allows import from external media. I could try that as an experiment.

thanks for help

Use Chess For Android 5.9

Later versions removed option to load engines.

Load engines from Chess For Android 'Install Engine from SD' by navigating to Droidfish UCI folder

The last version where this still worked was version 6.2.1. Newer versions of Chess for Android require an APK file to be installed. APK files already exist for some of them, including Berserk.
