Hi Chris,

That's great news!
If you’d like, I could test with the popular GUIs, Shredder, and DF 16 to see if the crashes still occur during longer thinking times with many cores and permanent brain.
I really like Chess System Tal; the program plays very strongly in positions where a slight material disadvantage is well compensated for and defeats many other engines with impressive attacks.

Best regards,

Here are my two gripes:

1.) Rebel/CSTAl won't play capture moves from a Polyglot book.

Already reported and discussed here.

2.) Crash issues in infinite analysis:

I am not sure this is the same thing discussed already here, so I report again.
This one was actually already verified a little in 2024 and confirmed as reproducable by Ed:

On my computer the following position is exceptionally reliable at crashing Rebel 16.3 in infinite analysis after like one hour at most more or less regardless of settings:

FEN without graphics: r2q3r/4bk1p/3p1nbB/1B2p3/pp2P3/6P1/PPPQ4/R1N1K2R w KQ - 0 1

If no one can reproduce this, I am out of testing ideas for now.

Kind regards
Peter

Hi Peter,

I tried this position many times with Rebel and Chess System Tal and indeed it stops calculating every time, it may happen 30 minutes or several hours. This is the kind of nightmare bugs. Thanks for reporting.

Love all the EAS engines that adds variety to game analysis. My gripe is lack of availability for Linux and Android.
