📱 The Mobile Chess Engine Circuit (MCEC) is a passion-driven, hobbyist Android tournament inspired by elite desktop events like TCEC and the Chess.com Computer Chess Championship (CCC).

Born out of curiosity, MCEC explores a fascinating question: How do the world's strongest chess engines actually perform when constrained to a practical, daily-use mobile phone?

Unlike massive desktop server setups that brute-force thousands of games overnight, MCEC games are run selectively during free time when the device is available. It is a real-world, practical exploration of software efficiency under strict resource limits.

⏳ MCEC Circuit History

• Season 1 (Completed & Success): Established the core structural proof-of-concept for high-stakes mobile tournament ladders on everyday hardware. The format proved highly competitive and successfully ranked our original mobile engine pool.

• Season 2 (Halted / Stopped): Due to technical adjustments, real-world scheduling limitations, and the evolution of the mobile engine landscape, Season 2 was prematurely stopped to recalibrate the entire ecosystem.

• Season 3 (Now Beginning!): Rebuilt, optimized, and officially launching. Season 3 implements an expanded 72-engine baseline benchmark, strict stability filters, and a clean CCC-style tier framework to accommodate powerful newcomers.

🎯 Tournament Goals & Focus

• The Low-End Gauntlet: To document how elite, world-class chess engines scale down and perform under limited mobile resources.

• Elite Threshold: Exclusively features the strongest open-source chess engines capable of reaching 3300+ Elo environments.

• The Stability Filter: MCEC is as much about compatibility, stability, and efficiency as it is about raw strength. Engines must handle mobile thermal conditions and OS constraints without crashing.

• Performance Tracking: Rather than calculating official Elo ratings (due to the practical limits of resource-constrained testing), MCEC focuses on head-to-head performance data, structural stability, and mobile win-probabilities.

🛠️ MCEC Technical Specifications, Settings & Adjudication

All games are strictly monitored and conducted under identical, controlled conditions. To ensure games run efficiently on mobile hardware without wasting battery on dead-drawn or completely decided positions, the tournament utilizes strict GUI Adjudication Rules:

🤝 Special Acknowledgments
MCEC would not be possible without the incredible support and dedication of the computer chess community. Heartfelt thanks go to:

• The Engine Developers:
The brilliant minds behind the open-source codebases pushing the boundaries of chess science.

• Jim Ablett:
For his high-performance Android engine builds form the absolute backbone of this circuit.

• Archimedes:
For his highly-optimized Android engine compilations.

• Stefan Pohl:
For his outstanding UHO (Unbalanced Human Opening) Books, which provide the perfect, mathematically balanced testing ground to push these engines to their tactical limits.

📜 Our Mission
MCEC is ultimately a passion-project driven by curiosity, learning, and a profound appreciation for computer chess. It operates strictly as a casual, long-term testing sandbox run entirely in my spare time on independent, everyday consumer mobile hardware.

The final name of this stage is "MCEC S3: The Gateway". Its about to begin next week, As in next week and most probably on Saturday or the next day.

Running this tournament is very difficult for me since I am using my own personal phone, sometimes my phone isn't available for whole day due to achool or personal life but then I keep running this tournament until the end of this Season 3. I am running this tournament as a hobby, I love watching and engines playing each other on my phone.

The total games of MCEC S3 The Gateway is 1,122 games. I estimated to complete this stage within 2-3 weeks.

Feel free to advice, suggest, comment or even correction when you found any errors in the tournament. I am not good running tournament but I am comfortable enough.

MCEC Season 3: The Gateway and Tournament Structure

What is the MCEC Tournament?
The Mobile Chess Engine Circuit (MCEC) is a hobbyist Android tournament where world-class chess engines compete on practical, daily-use mobile hardware. The goal is to see how these engines perform under strict resource limits. MCEC Season 3 starts with an initial baseline benchmark phase of 72 engines to establish a top 1-72 ranking.

Based on this benchmark, the 72 participant engines are divided into three tiers:

• Top 1-36: The Main Engines
• Top 37-48: The Gateway (Gatekeepers)
• Top 49-72: The Arise (Tentative Name)

What is "The Gateway"?

The Gateway is the entry point and testing ground for new engines joining the circuit. The engines currently ranked 37-48 are designated as the Gatekeepers.

When a newcomer engine enters the circuit, it must fight in The Gateway. The Gatekeepers must defend their positions against the newcomers, while the newcomers must attempt to dethrone them. The purpose of this stage is to determine who survives to stay in the upper rankings and who falls into the lower tiers.

How The Gateway Works:

Usually, The Gateway consists of the 12 Gatekeeper engines fighting the newcomers. After this stage concludes, the total pool of engines in The Gateway is split in half based on their performance.

• Example Scenario: If The Gateway has 34 engines competing, they will be divided into two groups of 17 after the matches.

• The Top Half (First 17): These engines will advance to face the bottom half of the Main Engines (Ranked 19-36). This crossover phase is called the MCEC S3 Entry League.

• The Bottom Half (Next 17): These engines will drop down to face the top half of The Arise engines (Ranked 49-66).

The MCEC Season 3 League Progression
After the Gateway and Entry League phases, the surviving engines will progress through a series of increasingly difficult leagues, fighting for the championship:

•MCEC S3 League 4: 12 Engines | 396 Games | Top 25-36

• MCEC S3 League 3: 12 Engines | 396 Games | Top 19-30

• MCEC S3 League 2: 12 Engines | 396 Games | Top 13-24

• MCEC S3 League 1: 12 Engines | 396 Games | Top 6-17

•vMCEC S3 Main: 12 Engines | 528 Games | Top 1-12

• MCEC S3 Semi-Final: 6 Engines | 600 Games | Top 1-6

• MCEC S3 Final: 2 Engines | 300 Games | Top 1 vs. Top 2

•MCEC S3 Arises (Tentative)

Note: This stage will officially be run after the conclusion of the MCEC S3 Final.

Because the MCEC circuit holds a strict cap of 72 engines, this phase manages the bottom tier. As new engines successfully earn their spot through The Gateway earlier in the season, the lowest-performing engines in The Arises (starting from rank 72 downwards) will be kicked out of the circuit to make room for the new competitors.

MCEC S3 The Gateway is just started, I add Panda 2.0 and Ruhorin 1.9.9.

As I said earlier, this takes 2-3 weeks estimate but I will try to complete it within 2 weeks.

You may notice constant changes to this tournament, its because, when I stop Season 2 and moths of break, I decided to starts again directly to Season 3 but then there are a lot of new engines, more builds, make me overloaded and dont know what to do.

From now on, only few needed to changes remain such as removing Fire 10 and Fat Fritz 2.
