Re: Myracle GUI

Thank you for the explanation, and sorry that my wording was not clear.

By “dead position,” I meant what the FIDE Laws describe under Article 5.2.2: a position in which neither player can checkmate the opponent’s king by any possible series of legal moves, even though legal moves may still be available. A permanent blockade can produce such a position.

My question arose while considering engine-side recognition of these positions. Your answer clarifies the main point: if Myracle asks the engine for a move and at least one legal move exists, the engine should evaluate the position as 0.0 but still return a legal move. Sending bestmove 0000 would instead be treated as an illegal move, causing the engine to lose the game.

I also understand that Myracle detects trivial material configurations and, when enabled, Syzygy adjudications, but not general dead positions caused by permanent blockades. Therefore, if Myracle does not recognize such a position, the engines must continue supplying legal moves until another rule or adjudication ends the game.

Thank you again for your help.
