HGM is a long time hero of computer chess.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

On a side note. I'm getting tired of seeing:

What is going on here? This forum is unusable—it is soooooo slow. Is there no improvement in sight?

The requests per client per second seem to be limited to reduce load, so if you browse the site to fast, or open multiple tabs, you will see this error. Be patient with lil TC server

Speaking as a user, you have to wait till the page loads completely, the request is finished, then you can browse furhter. If the forbidden error occurs, then wait about 10 seconds and then try to reload the requested page.Volker Pittlik wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2026 6:43 pmFor me it was the only page I saw in the past few days...

And yes, site is back to slow again, at least for me.

I log in to one of my own posts about the Fine-structure constant when I can't access it from the browser anymore. This sometimes seems to help logging in at least. Probably comparable to logging in with known hash key (remember me) But it varies enormously. Always prepare text outside in Notebook or something, else you may lose it when the site logs you out when you want to post. It's like not saving intermediate results in Word so you lose everything in a crash. This always happens when you have a deadline for important paperwork of course. Back in my days when I worked for the Waddenvereniging. We had to protect the oystercatchers and the cockles in the Waddensea. Well not my own work but I had to bring the juridical complaints to the Post office at the last possible moment..
