I believe the term "Universal" is incorrect. The program developers list it as a Universal compilation, but it doesn't apply to all PCs. Mine, for example, doesn't load this program. Furthermore, Berserk and Triumviratus also mention Universal. I think it must be the name of the church they attend, because it doesn't work in the compilations...

Fair point, the name is misleading. In GaiaChess, “universal” means a single binary for all modern x86-64 CPUs. It detects your processor at startup and picks the fastest code path (AVX2, AVX-VNNI, AVX-512, VNNI-512), so you don’t have to choose between avx2/bmi2/avx512 builds. Its baseline is x86-64-v3, which means it needs AVX2 (with BMI2 and FMA). That covers Intel Haswell (2013) and later, and AMD Excavator and Zen. Many Pentium, Celeron and Atom chips lack AVX2, even recent ones.
If universal doesn’t start on your machine, take the compat binary from the same release. It runs on any x86-64 CPU: same engine and same chess, just slower.
Which CPU do you have?

I won’t go into too much detail, so as not to cause any stress, but the programs I mentioned don’t work on any build. And please don’t tell me it’s my PC—I have other programs, such as Stockfish (which was released as a "Universal" application), that work perfectly, along with many others...j_romang wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2026 9:24 pmHi Flavio,Chacal X wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2026 8:40 pm

Hi Flavio,
To recap: it doesn’t work, on any build, on a machine you’d rather not describe, in a GUI you’d rather not name, and the cause is a church. I’ve forwarded it to our debugging department; it’s run by a medium.
If you ever want it fixed rather than just reported, three words are enough: GUI, Windows version, CPU.
